The Congress would do good to ban Members from holding stock while in office & for 2-5 years after leaving. I wonder how many would follow Sen. Lott's exit strategy. (2/2)

In 2007, Congress passed a bill, which, in part, banned Members for lobbying for 2 years after leaving office. Those who left office by '08 were not covered by the ban.

On 26 Nov. '07, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott resigned. CNN said his resignation was, in part, due to the bill. (1/2)

One of my strongest beliefs is that local elected officials should be expected to robustly review presentation materials ahead of public meetings, and the bulk of those meetings should be spent on follow-up questions and sustained discussion.

Progressive labor rights advocate @hannahsabiohowell.bsky.social is challenging Jamie Pedersen, the Washington State Democrats’ majority leader. Many on the left have accused Pedersen of stymying legislation on housing affordability and taxation

The challenges to longstanding incumbents will continue until legislation and leadership improves, I expect.

Thank you.

If we absolutely must have these technologies, the Select Committee on Federal Administration and the Public Safety committee must work together to create the firewall of firewalls...

We have seen, time and again, this government flat-out ignore Article III judges and ILLEGALLY ACCESS, even in this state, confidential state databases.

If they can bypass the State Department of Licensing, what on earth makes you believe they couldn’t steamroll the City of Seattle?

I believe there are some of you who labor under the delusion that the federal government will follow the law, or “go about things the right way,” and you need to disabuse yourselves from that.

… 195 days since Muhammed Zahid Chaudhry, a National Guard veteran, was also detained by ICE, and held for 123 days.

Today, I once again rise to ask this body to take action to protect our community from the egregious civil rights violations oozing daily from the federal government.

Today marks 407 days since the President took office.

…244 days since Homeland Security opened Alligator Alcatraz.

… Nearly one year since ICE deported Kilmar Ábrego García, since ICE detained Rümeysa Öztürk for over one month.

It was in my opinion an egregious violation against them, and I am particularly disgusted that neither CM Kettle nor any other members of the committee stepped in and shut the presentation down. (9/10)

Speaking now in my personal capacity, I want to direct my comments to CM Kettle and the Public Safety committee. This morning, the County Prosecutor's Office delivered a presentation about sex trafficking in the City, which included graphic images of women, bloodied and brutalised... (7/10)

Beyond that, when you walk before whichever Creator God you believe in, and they ask you, did you love your neighbor as yourself, or did you stand idly by the blood of your neighbor? We urge you to act with the urgency this brutality demands. (6/10)

When the Seattleites of the future ask you what you did in the face of authoritarianism, what will you say? What did you do with your power? Were you on the right side of history? (5/10)

Both the Public Safety Committee and the Select Committee on Federal Administration should meet as soon as possible to address this and set out clear, concrete next steps. (4/10)

That includes supporting a general strike in solidarity with Minneapolis, shutting down ALPRs, speaking out unequivocably about these violations and using your power both at this dais and with intergovernmental partners to enact legislation that makes all of us safer. (3/10)
