Even if you cut open your filter and don't have metal inside, oil loses lubricity, and gets diluted by gasoline
Oil is cheap, engines are not
2000 miles is enough for an oil & filter change, because even synthetic oil loses additive qualities, and all combustion engines end up diluting the oil with gasoline to some extent
In 2026, oil & filter are the best investment you can make if you want a car to go 200,000 miles without major issues
