I took this image in March. I was among about 1.8 million tourists who visit this cultural site every year.
Koch-Schulte still has this stache.

Live by the gravy train, die by the gravy plane.
Even if so, it would be an extreme challenge to resolve the technical issues and build in four years.
Before this could happen, the following is required:
• Technical feasibility studies
• Economic due diligence
• Environmental assessments
• Indigenous & community consultation
• Design and engineering
• Construction
All in four years.

Pardon, 226.58 metres above sea level.
(Now you can see why we use feet James. It’s also a unique local *tradition* to use feet above normal winter ice level at James Avenue.)
The Red River in Winnipeg is 15.8 feet James, 7.3 feet above the riverwalk.
This is within the minor flood range. The river has risen about a third of a foot over the past 24 hours.
The crest is expected next week at ~17.7 feet James.

I was chased by a bison in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
It ran toward me from a kilometre away on top of a butte. I skirted down a slope and made a 5-km detour to avoid being on level ground with it.
It was in the spring and this guy was unusually aggressive.
Always use topo maps, kids.
The Red in Winnipeg is stable right now at 15.5 feet James. A minor flood.
There is no specific forecast for a crest. In March, the province predicted a 17.2-foot crest under normal weather conditions. Also in the minor flood range.
The Red is still rising from Ste. Agathe to Winnipeg.
Libs now ahead. Too close to call for a long time, though.
The Liberals have a majority, CBC projects.
They’ve won one byelection and are leading in a second. The Bloc is leading in the third. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
The province called for a 17.2-foot crest in March under average weather conditions. We shall see.
No structures are threatened at this stage. The city has closed some gates and installed some pumps.
Nah. No biggie at this level.
And we’re there. Minor flood stage, as of 7:17 p.m.
Unofficial because there is no such thing as an official city flood.
Unofficially, 15 feet is a minor flood, 18 is moderate and 20 is major.
I’m no hydrologist, but based on previous years, we might need a lot more rain across the basin to drive levels up much higher.
The city has prepped for a 19-foot crest in the event of severely wet weather.
That’s unlikely. The river widens as it rises.
The Red River in Winnipeg is up to 14.6 feet James.
That is just a smidge below unofficial minor flood stage.
The Red has not been this high in Winnipeg since May 21, 2023.
