That’s awesome! It was so cool to see a documentary about you and your work show up in my YouTube feed.

My most recent interview with NHK World is up starting today, featuring a look into my work uncovering Fukui's local folklore: www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/...
It’s been that way for probably over 80 years. Concession prices have always been relatively high, and how the theatre stays in business.
BTW, that’s about $1 in ingredients for that popcorn, and maybe as much as $1 for the drink. 70-90% gross margin on concessions.
Theatres have high fixed expenses (staff, building costs, HVAC, utilities, whether anybody comes or not), and pay 55-65% of the ticket prices to rent the feature, in the first two weeks. They plug the operating cost gap with concession sales.
Happily using a fan and some computer equipment and listening to music, all with electricity made by that thin slice of gasses making pretty pinwheels turn, those gasses moving because they’re lit up by a huge energy source that’s going to not burn out for a very long time.
Today is a good day to remember that Carl Sagan was as outspoken about the dangers of war and nuclear weapons as he was an advocate of space exploration.

OH. MY. GOD.
THIS IS THE EARTHSET PHOTO FROM ARTEMIS II. IM SPEECHLESS.
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

I did not prep for April Fool's Day, but I'm getting ready for Easter hehehe

We are going to see an accelerating tide of these admissions and conversions as the coming weeks and months pass. And the job of those of us who have opposed Trump for years is to resist saying "I told you so," or "you knew better," but rather to say "thank you for seeing the light"...
With all due respect, Governor Pritzker, that Bill is a shill put up by Meta, is overly broad, targets operating systems that children don’t even use, and will stifle innovation and technology.
It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford. It’s about priorities.
FWIW, I sent Apple feedback on not being able to report suspicious apps without installing them, and called this app out questioning whether it was thoroughly reviewed.
A semi-transparent floating app information panel appears in an Apple Vision Pro-style mixed reality environment, set against a scenic background of a calm lake, dense evergreen forest, and a snow-capped mountain under a cloudy sky. At the top of the panel is a small app icon (dark blue with a white emblem) and a rounded “Get” button in the upper-right corner. Section header: “App Privacy” Below it, small text reads: “The developer, The Official White House, indicated that the app’s privacy practices may include handling of data as described below. For more information, see the developer’s privacy policy.” A centered card shows an icon of an eye with a slash through it and the heading: “Data Not Linked to You” Subtext: “The following data may be collected but it is not linked to your identity:” • Contact Info Below that, faint text reads: “Privacy practices may vary, for example, based on the features you use or your age. Learn More” Section: “Accessibility” Text: “The developer has not yet indicated which accessibility features this app supports. Learn More” Section: “Information” • Seller: Executive Office of the President • Size: 41.8 MB • Category: News • Compatibility: Works on this Apple Vision Pro • Languages: English • Age Rating: 4+ On the left side of the floating panel, a vertical toolbar shows three circular buttons (icons not fully clear, likely navigation or interaction controls).
Did Apple even review this app? How can “Contact info” be “Data not linked to You”??!? Unfortunately, one cannot “Report a Problem” without installing the app, and ew, I’m not letting that touch my devices.

This regime’s ineptitude may just be the salvation of democracy in the United States.
If they had any idea about subtlety, they might get away with what they’re doing. Instead, people are catching on and resisting.
I loved the Metro when I was in DC a lot. I called it “the best rapid transit an entire nation of tax support can buy”, kind of tongue in cheek.
On the other hand, the US could fund other cities’ transit systems more…
It's okay to hate Meta and wish for its collapse and failure. But the two jury verdicts this week are not the vehicle for that. They're going to have widespread impact across the internet, and will do real damage to every other internet service.

I’m so confused.
I think a lot of good compatible iPad apps would make great resizable Vision Pro apps with a little work. You guys get all the praise for making Prompt native.
Not specifically mentioning Windows (aka Microsoft Remote Desktop) or anything.
And while I’m at it, Transmit was a savior when doing some work on an old VMS system a bit ago.
Hey, if getting Prompt to basically work on Vision Pro went any kind of smoothly, could you make a blog post or something? To encourage others?
Oh, you so got me with the VAX/VMS 5.1 login screen in the environment. My first VAX/VMS version was 3.0, back around 1982.
That’s outstanding! I will have to check it out. I keep hoping that more people bring apps to Vision Pro… They don’t have to be immersive, they just have to have nicer windows. The environment looks cool too
Trump Screenshot: "Pritzker—guys a failed governor. All he had to do was say: "President, we're having a problem in Chicago. Could you come in and fix it?""
Trump's illegal tariffs took $8,679,261,600 out of the pockets of Illinoisans.
Fix that.
It must be *infuriating* to TSA agents, who are NOT getting paid, to see lazy ICE agents, who ARE getting paid, lounging about the airport and doing nothing to help either them or passengers.
Sir, you make so much sense. I’ve been saying for years: When it comes to feeding our hungry, healing our sick, housing our homeless, there’s never money. But to drop bombs on brown people halfway around the world, there’s an infinite budget.
Nope. Abolish ICE, or split up DHS, and you can have your air travel back. I would be all for separately funding airport security, but no money for a government that shoots its citizens in the face. After all, we can’t be like Iran.
