The velvet dress is based on a painting of Barbora Radvilaitė, Lithuanian noblewoman. The Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of #Lithuania, from a series of portraits of Jogailaičiai dynasty, painted in the studio of Lucas Cranach the Younger around 1553-1556.

Motiejus Kazimieras Sarbievijus was called the “Christian Horace” and in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the “Lithuanian Horace.” The poet taught rhetoric, philosophy, and theology at Vilnius University from 1626 to 1635, was then made preacher to King Vladislovas Vaza.

The first orphanage in Vilnius, the capital of the Grand Duchy of #Lithuania. It was opened in 1791 by Jadvyga Teresa Ogińskienė, the wife of the Voivode of Trakai. Moreover, the nearby street was called the Orphan street. The institution was closed in 1966.

Jacob Maris painted this so-called bluff-bowed ship on the beach in Scheveningen. Coastal villages didn’t have a harbour, so ships had to set sail straight from the beach and return there again. Horses helped them get in and out of the water. 🐴⛵

The exhibition "Between the threads of time. The tapestry Abduction of the Sabine Women and the story of its restoration" in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of #Lithuania, Vilnius.
The tapestry created at the Royal Aubusson Manufactory (?) (#France🇫🇷) in the mid-18th century.
Most notably, Wanstead House (Its gardens now form the municipal Wanstead Park) influenced the design of the #WhiteHouse in Washington DC, where an exact copy of the portico at Wanstead was reproducing for official residence of the president of #US.
If I were a thief, 🥷I would steal this painting from #Louvre. "Le maréchal Ney à la redoute de Kowno" (Marshal Ney at the #Kaunas' redoubt) by Auguste Raffet, 1839. Sadly, it is not in the exposition.
Did you know? During the interwar period #Kaunas was called "The Little #Paris."

The Altar of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral Basilica of #Kaunas. after restoration.
It is the oldest wooden altar in the church, which was erected in 1503 by the Blessed Virgin Mary litterateurs brotherhood. It was redecorated in XVII c.
