I am seeing more and more scientists and lefties chalking Artemis II up as a complete waste of money. This is so deeply concerning to me in an age of growing scientific skepticism and disbelief in the value of fundamental science.

Very happy to see this lab paper out in @newphyt.bsky.social - we identified genomic traits & environmental drivers of ectomycorrhizal fungal mycelium exploration in the soil and on roots.
Thanks to all our co-authors and to @tommansfield.bsky.social

Weβve posted a new preprint providing evidence that endophytic fungi facilitate resource transfer through common mycelial networks. A neat aspect of our study is that we measured fungal functional changes when connected to more than one plant, not just the plants!

Great new article out by Solomon Maerowitz-McMahan on fungal production, composition, and fire response. Solomon presented this work at our mycorrhizal session last year the @egu.eu meeting (you can still submit to present your work at our 2026 session).

Who runs the forest? Microbes. Our new paper shows soil microbiomes outweigh the effects of elevated CO2 on Scots pine growth, and differences in soil microbiomes influence how plants grow and respond to elevated CO2.

Uuu yes, thank you!
How cool is this!
I think thatβs a great point. I agree - especially considering stoichiometry, pH, and competition differences between those substrates. Probably bacterial interactions also modulate this quite a lot.

Coming to the @egu.eu General Assembly in 2026? Consider submitting an abstract to our mycorrhizae session if you are working on these organisms and their linkages to ecosystem functioning. Last year, this new session was a huge hit, so let's make year two even better!
This week as part of the @pilzfestspiele.at - our group showed mycorrhizal fungal colonized roots, our culture collection, posters of results, and we had a massive turnout! People are becoming increasingly interested in fungi @cemess.bsky.social @ter-cemess.bsky.social

A fun commentary with @christinakaiser.bsky.social inspired by a very cool paper in New Phyt by @fungidownunder.bsky.social et al. showing that EcM fungal functional traits affect soil C responses to elevated CO2. EcM species and traits really matter!

What a week and almost 2 more to go sampling our Mycobiome x Climate Change exp (144/576 done)! We added isotopes to track π transfer, collected seedlings (so much πβπ«) and you can see the myco treatment effects! Grateful for such a great team in the lab! Thanks @snsf.ch and @wwtf.at for support!
