as luck would have it. he finds himself under hospital lights. someone had found him washed up on the beach and hauled him to safety.
umbrella struggled under the water before feeling himself slip away. the light fading from his eyes. he would let the tides carry his cold body and wash him away.
was one cry too much to back out. the fragile material snapped under his weight, sending him plummeting down to the very rocky shores that lighthouse was meant to warn ships of.
he would feel his body against the rocks. his limbs pierced and torn apart. the cold water bit at his skin.
not enough. it’s still not close enough. just.. just what else could he do? he’s on his toes, standing on the railings. screaming into the howling wind, begging for a reply.
a creak should’ve been enough for him to back down and give up. but one cry from the old metal he rested his full weight on-
no, just reaching his arm out wouldn’t reach anyone. Closer. Just a bit more. maybe if he stood on the railings. maybe if he found a way to rid himself of that chain around his ankle. maybe he’ll reach further. the worn out heel of his boot will do the trick against some rusty old chain.
lightning roared as it announced the arrival of a thunderstorm. a droplet hits the tiled roof. then another. then a shower. then a downpour.
amidst the curtain of rain is a faint yellow glow.
is that..?
so much so it drove him insane. he told himself over and over and over. that their return would be sooner than later. he told himself they’ll be back. they’ll be back. they’ll be back. they’ll be back. they’ll.. they’l l be back ..
and so, they made the ocean their final resting place.
he sunk as the sun rose. its rays waking up the one slateskin had left behind.
even after looking around for signs of their existence, he realized they left as fast as they came. umbrella has to convince himself that it was *real*.
