California Democrats are really, really fumbling the affordability fight. Making it more expensive for lower-income families to get an EV when oil prices are going through the roof is incredibly dumb.

Thanks to a huge solar array and a 3.4 MWh battery, this California EV charging station doesn’t need a grid connection.

@emorwee.bsky.social: “What really makes this story remarkable is not simply that oil executives got rich from a war. It’s how perfectly legal and normal it all is, and what that legality reveals about who wins and who loses when America goes to war.” open.substack.com/pub/heated/p...
Turns out a lot of folks who thought they needed to upgrade their electrical panels to ditch gas appliances — which is not cheap! — may not actually have to: www.canarymedia.com/articles/ele... via @alisontakemura.bsky.social

It's here! My complete review of LA28's "superbloom" visual identity for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games hosted by the city of Los Angeles which is for some reason inspired by things that happen out in the desert in the spring 🙃
Used EVs are now cheaper to buy and cheaper to operate than fossil fuel cars. And here is an updated report comparing costs of used EVs and fossil fuel cars in 2026. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋 rmi.org/tired-of-gas...
Map of U.S., from coolwx.com, showing locations currently experiencing record-breaking temperatures. There are countless such locations in the Western U.S., with hundreds of red dots (locations breaking daily record highs) and dozens of pink dots (locations breaking March monthly record highs). The region of record heat extends from the Pacific Coast to the Great Plains, and from Canada to Mexico.
Fair to say that the Western U.S. heatwave has reached record-shattering status, with dozens of locations breaking all-time March monthly heat records & some now approaching *April* records. Swath of record heat extends clear from Pacific to Great Plains, & from Canada to Mexico.
On the flipside of high gas prices and scary-high payments on new cars, there’s a surprising glut of tempting EV models that are pretty dang cheap to buy.
A new study says gas prices are expected to rise five times as much as EV charging costs due to the Iran oil shock.
“The oil and gas industry’s financial strategy has been ‘pray for war,’ because those are the conditions under which they make money,” said one an oil industry financial analyst. “They have to have a big price spike every few years literally to make ends meet.”

Virginia’s House just passed a bill to legalize balcony solar — panels that residents can install on their own and plug into a standard outlet.
We can get way more out of the grid we have already paid for just by deploying batteries and demand flexibility at scale.

There’s a BIG UPDATE to the progress of plug-in solar across the U.S. 🙌 Inspired by Utah’s law, 23 are now proposing policies to make affordable, accessible solar available for all. Take a look if your state is on the list ⬇️
On Tuesday, climate activists rallied at 10 stadiums across the U.S., from Los Angeles to St. Louis to Philadelphia.
It was the first national day of protest against fossil fuel sponsorships in American sports. I doubt it will be the last.

The most consequential decision SCAQMD has ever made was swayed by 20k AI generated comments. The full scope is not know at this time, but at least some of the AI comments were submitted without the knowledge of the people attributed. There were at least 100 of us in person in the room… (1/2)
The LA Times just published an exposé showing that opponents of South Coast AQMD's proposed zero-emission appliance rules generated thousands of fake comments using AI. Based on these fake emails, the Board voted down the rules last year. They need to reconsider it! www.latimes.com/environment/...
