That an American Cardinal from Chicago, but with deep international experience, Robert Prevost, took the name Leo XIV, the world may now see the consequences of his following Leo XIII who set the foundations of modern Catholic Social Teaching, and called the "father of social justice."

Pentecost Witness for a Moral Budget Liturgy and legislation don’t often align– nor should they. But this June, they will.

We are inviting you to join us at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, June 10th, to stand up against these harmful budget cuts. We want to show that Christians, across all of our traditions, are against these callous cuts to the most vulnerable and marginalized.

This made Francis a wonderful exception to many church leaders.

Pope Francis was known for the same things as Jesus was: his deepest love for the poor and vulnerable, his warmest welcome to migrants, his consistent visits with prisoners, his bold confrontations of the rich and powerful, his faithfulness in calling for an end to war and violence.

When a dictator is trying to taken over, you shouldn’t just endlessly worry about things you can’t control. Just stand and speak up where you can.

Christians believe human fallibility too great to allow unchecked power for our leaders (RNS) — If the political realm will not stand up to the autocratic pretensions of the current president, it falls to people of faith to take nonviolent action.

Authoritarianism is not only a political issue, it’s a theological one. The human capacity for evil is too great to allow individuals to have too much unchecked political power.

If the dangerous and incompetent war time secrets debacle with Cabinet members--accidentally including a journalist--does not get the serious attention of Republicans, we must ask what will? Is this a final sign that a whole political party has been taken over by one man and his MAGA vision?

Imperial President Being an ultimate dictator is who Donald Trump has always been.

Donald Trump wants to be an imperial president. This is not the first time that American presidents have acted in imperial ways. But in most cases they have been called mistakes, overreaches, or just wrong– either contemporaneously or retrospectively.

The @revjimwallis.bsky.social, director of the @faithandjustice.bsky.social, said he supports the “powerful and symbolic” boycott efforts led by Black churches and he hopes to encourage a broad participation in them among faith leaders of different racial and ethnic groups

We have great battles in Congress ahead about government spending. Therefore, it is time to ask which House and Senate members are willing to make defending Medicaid and SNAP for low income people and families a moral issue, and for those who call themselves followers of Jesus- a faith issue.

1 year ago 2 0 0 1

After the Republican bill passed last night, Medicaid and Snap--health and food for the poor--seem about to be slashed. That will devastate the very people Jesus taught us to protect. Expect an escalation of faith in response.
