A thin structure of dark gas clouds spreads across the image. The pillar is darker and broader at the base, thin toward the middle, and broadens out again at the top, with spikes, fingers, and wisps of gas protruding in all directions from its head. Some parts of the pillar are illuminated, but most are dark and silhouetted at the edges and lit from behind. A wall of colorful gas lies behind the pillar, bluish at the top and redder toward the bottom, with several blue and gold stars scattered across it. Image credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA, K. Noll
The image is divided horizontally by an undulating line between a cloudscape forming a nebula along the bottom portion and a comparatively clear upper portion. Speckled across both portions is a starfield, showing innumerable stars of many sizes. The smallest of these are small, distant, and faint points of light. The largest of these appear larger, closer, brighter, and more fully resolved with 8-point diffraction spikes. The upper portion of the image is blueish, and has wispy translucent cloud-like streaks rising from the nebula below. The orangish cloudy formation in the bottom half varies in density and ranges from translucent to opaque. The stars vary in color, the majority of which, have a blue or orange hue. The cloud-like structure of the nebula contains ridges, peaks, and valleys – an appearance very similar to a mountain range. Three long diffraction spikes from the top right edge of the image suggest the presence of a large star just out of view.
A filamentary orange veil covers a bright region of star formation. The background is dark, stippled with stars and galaxies ranging from small bright dots to starry shapes. The foreground veil spans from upper left to the bottom right and resembles a seahorse. Bright stars light up the ‘eye’ and ‘chest’ regions of the seahorse with purple light. Within the tail, three bright spots sit in a traffic-light like formation.
This image of the Ring Nebula, taken by Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera, appears as a distorted doughnut. The nebula’s inner cavity hosts shades of blue and green, while the detailed ring transitions through shades of orange in the inner regions and pink in the outer region. The ring’s inner region has distinct filament elements. Stars litter the scene, with a particularly prominent star with 8 long spikes in the top right corner.

Endemic black faced sheathbill looking down on penguin masses on Heard Island
Sen. Peter Squelch (Black Faced Shealthbill party) addressing congress today. He is attempting to champion a resolution to sell penguin eggs in return for tariff renegotiation. So far, he’s received cold shoulders and some Senators who’ve even flipped the bird, in a typically polite Ice House.

What if you're not, actually, terrible or lazy or stupid or weak or whatever? What if-- hear me out-- you're a good person having a rough time?
What if that just sounds fake because of old programming laid on you by your parents, culture, & other bullies or abusers?
me: my feed’s gotta stay organized, logical, cant clutter it w anyone I’ve ever scrolled by once
me, potentially /just/ seconds later: ooo, that art is pretty, I should follow
that’s a lovely quote! I’ll follow
spACE & STARS = follow!!!
cute animals are a total follow

A large galaxy is at center, and a significantly smaller galaxy is to its left. The large galaxy is mostly face-on, but the top appears slightly tilted away. It has several rings. Its circular core is bright white at the very center, but light yellow overall. Going outward, there are gaps between the rings. The core is surrounded by two slightly lighter yellow rings, which also appear to be overlapping. The next ring is slightly more transparent and yellow. The two or three rings that are farther out are bluer, sometimes with blue clumps. The widest ring is also blue, but also the most transparent. At 9 o’clock is a small dwarf galaxy. It is about the same size as the yellow core of the Bullseye. The dwarf galaxy is blue, with many dots. It looks like the edge of the Bullseye might touch the dwarf galaxy. Both galaxies are set on the black background of space, which is dotted with a range of galaxies in different shapes, colors, and sizes, along with one foreground star at left.
A concentration of bright blue stars occupies the bottom right corner of the image. At bottom center within them is a small blue bubble. The stars and bubble are part of a diffuse dwarf galaxy that extends beyond the image border. Background galaxies are scattered across the image, with some particularly prominent spirals located at upper left and upper right. The background of space is black.
This is a highly detailed composite image of a star-forming region of space known as 30 Doradus, shaped like a bouquet, or a maple leaf. X-ray wind and gas takes the shape of a massive purple and pink bouquet with an extended central flower, or perhaps a leaf from a maple tree. The hazy, mottled shape occupies much of the image, positioned just to our left of center, tilted slightly to our left. Inside the purple and pink gas and wind cloud are red and orange veins, and pockets of bright white light. The red and orange veins represent energy ejected by supernovas, carried on cosmically strong winds. The pockets of white light represent clusters of young stars. One cluster at the heart of 30 Doradus houses the most massive stars astronomers have ever found. The hazy purple and pink bouquet is surrounded by glowing dots of green, white, orange, and red. A second mottled purple cloud shape, which resembles a ring of smoke, sits in our lower righthand corner.
This is a composite image of star cluster NGC 602, in vibrant and festive colors. The shape of the star cluster strongly resembles a holiday wreath. The cluster includes a giant dust cloud ring, shown in greens, yellows, blues, and oranges. The green hues and feathery edges of the ring cloud create the appearance of a wreath made of evergreen boughs. Hints of red representing X-rays provide shading, highlighting layers within the wreath-like ring cloud. The image is aglow with specks and dots of colorful, festive light, in blues, golds, whites, oranges, and reds. These lights represent stars within the cluster. Some of the lights gleam with diffraction spikes, while others emit a warm, diffuse glow. Upon closer inspection, many of the glowing specks have spiraling arms, indicating that they are, in fact, distant galaxies.
i feel like we all need another timeline cleanser

Dear human, I see how strong you are, doing your best whenever you can. But even the strongest hearts need rest. Strength and resilience are wonderful, but so is letting yourself enjoy the little moments that make life sweeter. So please, don’t forget to make space for a little warmth too. Even the fiercest feline knows the importance of curling up in the sun and letting out a good purr. Today, I just want you to remember: you deserve that softness just as much as your strength. You deserve joy too. May the purr be with you, Your feline friend

The Earth's magnetic field reverses more often than previously thought 500 million years ago, the planet's magnetic poles were swapping places at a frantic pace. Today, this activity helps us learn more about its effects on early organisms and the formation of the Earth's core.

To all who see this thank you for sticking around and for new moots I hope we can continue being good buddies
I am all of these lil guys all at once~
(plus the one meme of an interviewer holding a microphone up to a bittybatbaby and it says something along the lines of “I am small and have no money so you just imagine how hard life is”)
I want to boop the little snoot of the snake on the OG post too aaa💖✨
A star cluster is shown inside a large nebula of many-colored gas and dust. The material forms dark ridges and peaks of gas and dust surrounding the cluster, lit on the inner side, while layers of diffuse, translucent clouds blanket over them. (ESA / Webb, NASA & CSA, P. I’ve never done pixel art before so I attempted Mr. Mochi
(…or maybe I’m just trying to hype myself up about not being too scared to finish this very-important-to-me mixed media gift for someone for Christmas… abstract but focused isn’t my forte, so I’m nervous! lmao)
i’ve fallen into the world of art journaling, and it feels like a beautiful butterfly effect sort of collaboration.
what you made sparked joy in some creative neuron of someone else, and what they made may in turn be a similar inspiration for others… that’s just always really cool to me. :3

what’s it like knowing that you regularly make stuff so cool that it inspires people to collage with it?
often collages that have nothing to do with the original subject, but that couldn’t be possible without your work?
