maybe it’s a purity test, but i don’t think it’d be a bad idea for #rhap to check in with their hosts and guests to see if they actually like survivor… cause it seems like most don’t unless it’s perfect. in which case… they don’t like survivor. but maybe the shows just aren’t for me anymore.

maybe what makes adam klein a good guest is that he’ll ignore the things we see on screen in favour of his projections and fantasies, but it makes for a very uncomfortable listening experience. it certainly adds perspectives and viewpoints, but his certainty is a little 😬😬

the return of ben solo - the healing of the wounded masculine - is not meant to be the focus of act one’s act one in a new saga. it could be the FOCUS of a new saga, and provide so much more depth and meaning if it takes the time to coooooook.

my brothers and sisters and friends beyond the binary… let them COOK!! do i want ben solo on my screen again? yes. do i think a lost husband/redemption story is important? absolutely. but does my impatience create a better story?

he didn’t want any build up, he wanted immediate payoff. someone so concerned with production and creative choices wanted to blow the entire old republic load at the first opportunity.

and it reminds me of the calls for #thehuntforbensolo to be the next trilogy movie or produced as soon as possible

as a star wars reader, he was hoping for the jedi to reflect the extent of their power during this era in the acolyte. this was before the entire series aired mind you, but he wanted more jedi in general, more flourishes, blah blah blah

he wanted all of that from the first time the OR was on screen

just saw a reddit post asking what people wanted more from star wars TV: new era or old republic, and it reminded me of a grievance i had with a previously enjoyed podcast during the acolyte and is relevant today.

this podcaster was disappointed with the grandness, or lack thereof, of the OR jedi

before getting into book 6 of the wheel of time, i’m curious how the reversal of some deaths at the end of book 5 that rand keeps to himself would impact a descent into madness

my futile attempt at a sorceress arc is trying to cast a spell on prone to be ok if the hunt for ben solo doesn’t appear on the timeline they hope for. it’s coming. no matter what, it’s coming.

i’m cautious to believe that there’s such thing as a “cautionary tale” when it comes to myth-telling. what makes myth so powerful to me is that it doesn’t tell me how to live, it tells me how i will live. that i’ll experience tragedy and joy and selfishness and love and.

i will fall and rise.

thinking of the dyad in real terms - that push and pull and tension between two things. polar, but not only opposite. rey has a childlike enthusiasm for things, and i’d like to imagine ben solo would as well. which would be difficult to live with in a jedi order.

the only mythological thing happening in Andor being ripped from the lap of the goddess still keeps me up

my big gripe about about media criticism comes from the unwillingness to accept anything less than satisfying.

if story helps me understand myself and the world more, how does wishing for the absence of anything unsatisfying contribute to that?

we learn just as much when unsatisfied, maybe more.

so wild, i put on an episode last night and really don’t know what the people who loved the movie hated about it? even though i love it outside of the movie, it seems like a very faithful spiritual successor of 80s-dom.

a foundational principle of my practice is that i can’t prevent any of this from happening. all i can do is be there for people who want something different going forward.

i often feel as though i don’t have a place because of this.

saw an r/movie post requesting “competence porn” movies and it was enlightening to see that put into words.

it’s easier to accept flawed situations instead of flawed characters. to hold onto hope that you can think your way out of anything.

until it isn’t.

the amount of depth that archetype journeys add to star wars is absolutely mind boggling. you don’t know that yoda is a crone in the OT? everything he says is DUBIOUS.

i just finished #andor so i haven’t taken in any of the discourse on the femme character endings, but as a lost son, there was something for me in the bix ending. i’m sorry that it wasn’t more and that there’s pain that that causes.

i think a lot of people rejoicing in dedra’s downfall have yet to truly experience saturn’s return #andor

do we have to be perfect to fulfill our fate? are my choices going to lead me to fulfillment, or am i going to be guided there? the perfectly logical and rational person will be rewarded by suffering, the intuitive and flawed will be saved. thinking of jon snow and the battle of the bastards.

something about deus ex machina and a fated journey is forming in my mind.

often criticized for lazy writing and bailing out flawed characters and their decisions, the acts of gods don’t just result in resolution. what does the role of a deus ex machina play in the story? why is it occurring?

so the next time you watch the skywalker saga, chop it up a bit, throw yourself off kilter, and dive into the layers of the story in a way that actually fits together pretty marvellously.
