There’s a whole literature about the difference in naval structures between coastal and blue water navies! It’s about the requirements and capabilities ffs lol

💯. Also, keeping only to cold realist terms, this is also what’s so wrong with Hegseth’s insistence that ruthlessly stacking the most bodies is what determines the outcome of conflict.

Thinking of the whole body of literature and knowledge about differences between, say, blue water and coastal navies.

This is still a huge issue with the push to the trades. Outside of big cities, the only places to learn them are likely for-profit schools which run essentially as student loan harvesting machines. They do provide the certificate and the know-how but for more than a BS would cost at a state school.

Exactly what I would do. Anything better in the world than a free pastrami on rye just gifted from the ether? Maybe my son giving me a hug out of nowhere, but man it’s close.

Clearing Strait of Hormuz of mines could take 6 months, Pentagon tells Congress The Pentagon assessment, shared in a classified briefing for lawmakers, suggests gasoline and oil prices could remain elevated through the midterm elections.

"It could take six months to fully clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines deployed by the Iranian military, and any such operation is unlikely to be carried out until the U.S. war with Iran ends, the Pentagon has informed Congress."

YUP.

The Hormuz situation seems so so bad, like gonna-destabilize-half-the-globe-and-tank-the-economy bad, with no obvious resolution even plausible, and it’s still getting the “distant crisis mostly of interest to nerds that will work itself out” treatment in American press

The first epidemic of the 1918 flu in the United States occurred at the military’s Camp Funston, Kansas (later Fort Riley).

Infected soldiers headed to WWI battlefields carried the flu to Europe. Millions died

It’s not *vaccination* that weakens force readiness.

Meanwhile the Royals may unveil a downtown stadium plan tomorrow that could require the relocation of a church called Our Lady of Sorrows, so the vibes at new Kauffman will be immaculate

I mean they picked up MJ Melendez…have we considered that there is some kind of double curse arising from that afflicting both the Mets and the Royals?

Forest Service Cuts Would Devastate Years Of Hawaiʻi Research, Experts Warn The Forest Service is looking to close its Big Island labs — the only ones of their kind, researchers say, that help protect the Pacific's unique tropical forests.

The Forest Service’s proposed closure of research facilities in Hawaiʻi, including the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry and a biocontrol lab, threatens years of research on biocontrol agents and disease-resistant ʻōhiʻa strains, impacting efforts to protect Hawaiʻi’s forests and watersheds.

‘We were terrified they were going to kill us’: fishers who survived US boat strike speak out An Ecuadorian fishing crew describe their ordeal as victims of Trump’s purported war on ‘narcoterrorists’

“If there were no drugs aboard those boats, it’s a hugely embarrassing ‘false positive’ for US intelligence at a time when that intelligence is being used to kill people, no questions asked.”

Always laughed at that CoPilot commercial where the Bucs coaches are evaluating an entire linebacker class based on AI in Microsoft excel. I mean, inaccurate because that’s what the Bengals and Raiders will do, not the Bucs presumably.

Not sure if it’s just me, but it feels like the umpires have gotten even better with ABS. The system also shows how good umps are like 95% of the time, even on really close pitches. And you see that players are wrong at the same if not greater clip.
