The Quake games are technological titans and great for community content, but they all get mogged by their contemporaries in terms of actual gameplay.

The weakest Unreal Tournament game is immeasurably better than the best Quake game.

Insane to me that three FPS franchises all released multiplayer-focused titles within less than two weeks of each other in 1999. Turok: Rage Wars released THE NEXT DAY after Unreal Tournament, then Quake III Arena came out only 9 days later.

I think this was more directed towards the people that put down the idea of the Project entirely than it is people rehashing Civvie bits to try and fit in with an ingroup (which is annoying too).

There's only love for this meathead in the project, not an ounce of irony or cynicism. I've always despised the self-hating Demolition Man-type reboot idea thrown around, a reflection on an inversion of the character made only from a sense of superiority to the series, we're not making that.
