And make it permanent. National press chumminess with sources is a big part of what got us here. This annual charade celebrates that dysfunction. Long evident to the thinking public.

In a very tax-permissive, pro-education community, what happens when promises from the district go unfulfilled? @charlottealden.bsky.social did such a good job with this.
As a matter of principle, you can either have a dinner that celebrates the First Amendment or you can have a dinner that features Donald Trump. You can’t have both because the president holds the freedom of the press in contempt. www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump...
Bravo.
All of these cute stories about robots running sub-4 min miles during a half marathon fail to mention how terrifying it will be when these things are hunting us for sport in 2029.

Going abroad as an American in today's world? Get ready to explain the electoral college, travel guru Rick Steves says.
This week I had the privilege of laying out a truly beautiful news obituary written by contributor Elliott Almond for @cascadiadaily.com.
An American hero passes: Jim Whittaker, a Northwest icon and climbing legend who in 1963 became the first American to stand atop Mount Everest, has died in Port Townsend at the age of 97.
I have one in my closet. Would have negotiated a donation!
Cascadia Daily News has posted its full subscriber-only newsletter archive, from health and business to prep sports and education. (And two more.)

All the while incessantly explaining how important it is to have four human bodies up there to "see things that only humans can see." At one point the onground comms person actually said: "Those are good adjectives!" and asked for more.
It's a GoPro! $4 billion, easy come, easy go.
The NASA image from astronauts approaching the moon on TV all day has the resolution of a Polaroid point/shoot with detail you can see from your back yard with cheap binoculars. Just in: "The bandwidth is a little bit limited" to maintain life support systems and "safety of the astronauts."
Dammit we were working on that story.
An unbroken spread of names in a newspaper classified
The legal notice for the Whatcom County water adjudication in this week’s @cascadiadaily.com is something else! 13 unbroken pages listing every water rights holder. I dare, I double dare some local social media creator to read the whole thing straight to camera
Just so you understand, this is as if you prepared for argument in front of a panel that included Cookie Monster, and Cookie Monster asked you a question about cookies, and you had not thought about cookies in advance.
Major thanks to cohosts @alanamarcum.bsky.social and @breecascadia.bsky.social for the rollout of "On Background," @cascadiadaily.com's new behind-the-scenes hyperlocal news podcast, available here.
Nice story by Charlotte and yes, we are ordering one for CDN's newsroom.
While landlines have gone out of fashion in recent years, the folks behind Telehamster, a new independent landline network, are trying to bring them back. Had a blast talking to these folks. Now I'm feeling nostalgic for being a kid and calling my best friend's landline to find times to hang out.
I'm biased, but predict that fans of civil discourse, local news and @cascadiadaily.com @cascadiadaily.bsky.social are going to like this engaging, professional peek behind the curtains of a growing independent hyperlocal newsroom. Props to @frankcatalano.bsky.social for getting this ball rolling.
Really glad to see @cascadiadaily.com took this podcast idea — to demystify local news — and ran with it.
The more the public understands how #journalism works, its standards and decisions, the better for all.
First weekly episode will drop March 31. www.cascadiadaily.com/2026/mar/25/...
Dr. Ming Lin, the emergency department physician who gained widespread praise for calling out COVID-19 safety concerns at PeaceHealth, has had all his claims of wrongful termination and discrimination against the physician staffing firm dismissed by a judge. The ruling is being appealed.
Truth.
Welcome to the club! Also aside from legal concerns, it's just the responsible thing to do.
