For context, books like those by Adam Higginbotham, Katie Mack, Siddhartha Mukherjee, Ed Yong, Kate Zernike, and Chanda Prescod-Weinstein have all been big hits in recent years.

One of my favorite tasks each year is picking out books to gift graduating seniors who have earned honors. I usually aim for STEM-based non-fiction and try to tailor the books to students' interests and am always on the hunt for new options. Please send me recommendations!
Exactly, our physics program is the same.Theres no reduction in courses taught if the BA goes away because the BA requires just a smaller subset of the BS courses, but removing it may reduce degree completion rates. Literally no additional expense to keep the BA

Corbin graciously assisted with a remote tutoring session for a nibling on FBDs this evening by demonstrating the effect of balanced forces while at rest in real time.
Pretending to be a physician is, in fact, also not okay.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:
1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%
Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.
That is how we will pay for it.
I think people are underestimating how angry people are at the corruption.
my best guess is that a Trumpian Pentagon official, high on his own supply as they all are, thought "get your boss to play ball or we will do an Avignon on him" would genuinely intimidate AN 80-YEAR-OLD CARDINAL FROM FRANCE, which is perhaps the funniest thing anyone has ever done at the Pentagon
The City of Pittsburgh just passed legislation banning cooperation with ICE.
The vote was unanimous.

Personally I think when a world leader announces “Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern to watch the world end” like it’s the fucking season premiere of Roseanne we should have a different leader the next day.
Kim: Three weeks of the war in Iran could have funded vision, hearing, and dental coverage for every senior in America on Medicare. I mean, it just gives you a sense of the trade-off.
FYI if you’re talking about the #Artemis II mission and you want to get the spaceflight terminology right, the mission is “crewed,” not “manned.” (NASA made the terminology change official decades ago, so this isn’t new, but a lot of folks just aren’t aware.)
NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

I tell my students that writing is an exercise in figuring out what you think; it's not a place to deposit what you've already worked out.
If you step on a frictionless surface, momentum takes over and you just slide; there's nothing to interact with, which means there's nowhere to stand.
graphic that says in bold lettering "remember: no lilies for kitties. even ingesting a tiny amount of pollen can cause fatal kidney failure. don't risk it." the background is a wallpaper of lily drawings and there is a photo of a perfect, fluffy white cat in the bottom right corner.
This weekend and always, NO LILIES FOR KITTIES. www.fda.gov/animal-veter...
Just a few days ago, America saw the biggest public political demonstration in the nation's history. 8 million people across the country. Virtually no violence, no incidents of any kind. An absolutely remarkable phenomenon.
I'm reminding you because the media's forgotten already.
This is exactly why we need every major outlet to hire dedicated repro reporters - and why I publish Abortion, Every Day.
We are *fucked* if our gov't can label IUDs and the pill "abortion" and the nation's biggest papers don't think that's worth writing about

What size audience/class are you going to work with, and do you need to export any of the data for grades, etc?
Slido has some free options that are useful, but I often use iClicker in my classes as it plays well with Canvas.
The issue here is just the same as leaving students to use AI as they choose in their learning. They can quite reasonably convince themselves that it is allowing them to learn effectively and efficiently, while actually learning almost nothing. 6/6
This is an outstanding thread 🧵 to understand what's happening with DHS funding. It's party faction politics all the way up and all the way down, with a side dish of dysfunctional bicameralism. 👇
