Let it be accounted folly, or frenzy, or fury. It is our wisdom and our comfort; we care for no knowledge in the world but this, that the man hath sinned and God hath suffered; that God hath made himself the sin of men, and that men are made the righteousness of God.
--Richard Hooker

Making plans to attend this year's Atlantic Theological Conference, as "An exploration of the Anglicanism which defined Dr. Crouse, we will consider, amongst others, poetical sermons and writings of Lancelot Andrewes, John Donne, George Herbert, John Keble and Austin Farrer". âš“
The banality of vulgarity.
The banality of idolatry.
The banality of AI generated dreck.
The strife is o'er, the battle done;
the victory of life is won;
the song of triumph has begun.
Alleluia!
The powers of death have done their worst,
but Christ their legions has dispersed.
Let shouts of holy joy outburst.
Alleluia!
This is reconciliation:
His damnation our liberation,
his defeat our victory,
his mortal pain the beginning of our joy,
his death the birth of our life.

Ivanka Demchuk, Shroud of Christ.
Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto His sorrow.
What people don’t realize is how much religion costs. They think faith is a big electric blanket, when of course it is the cross.

ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross...
Attended a Prayer Vigil led by the laity of Messiah, St. Paul, to lament and pray. To pray these collects in particular is timely: For Peace Among the Nations; For our Enemies; For those in the Armed Forces of our Country; For those who suffer for the sake of Conscience.
I was very grateful to Bishop Sally French of New Jersey for her unequivocal prohibition of AI use in sermons and pastoral writing. She said (and I agree) that preaching is a task for humans, inspired by the Holy Spirit, in a particular congregation, and AI cannot do that.
Palm Sunday a few years back in St. Paul, MN. We feel your pain.
Have been off social media--more or less--since Ash Wednesday. I have missed contact with friends and accounts I value, but not the algorithm induced dopamine fix that comes with "heavy use". Here's to what I hope is a better approach, less daily use, but a healthy presence.
No visit to Nova Scotia is complete without worshipping at the heart of Canadian Anglicanism. âš“
Breaking social media silence: Last night in Nova Scotia, had to get the Fish 'n Chips.
Out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety during the extreme weather, we have made the difficult decision to cancel in person services today at Messiah, St. Paul.
We look forward to gathering again next week.
With every blessing,

Farewell for Lent, friends.
I will be taking a social media break for Lent. See you in Holy Week.
"I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the
observance of a holy Lent...".
Feeling seen.
It's been a hard month here in Minnesota, a heavy load on behalf of the most vulnerable in our congregations. And not without a whirlwind of emotions, not all of which have been healthy. Some even toxic.
As a clergy colleague confessed, "I really need a good shriving".
Me too.
#RecipeOfTheDay is, as it must be on Pancake Day, obviously enough, pancakes and, specifically, crêpes. These are the pancakes of my childhood and, furthermore, I have to eat them with just sugar and lemon juice. But that’s me: you go as wild as you want! www.nigella.com/recipes/crepes

Recovery Sunday today at Messiah, St. Paul, at 8:30am and 11am. MN Adult & Teen Challenge’s Mission is to assist men, women, and teens in gaining freedom from chemical addiction and other life-controlling problems by addressing their physical, emotional and spiritual needs ⚓
As a green card holder I see folks like this who, just like the folks here in Minnesota, are defending the Constitution of my adoptive country.
From W. David O. Taylor: "I wrote this prayer in memory of all the years that I spent alone as a single person and in memory of all the people who feel alone in their marriages, or in their widowhood, or in any other way within the family of God.
Lord, hear our prayer...".
This episode has been a nightmare for my city and state, but I hope people realize it’s also a profound defeat and political catastrophe for Trump and DHS, who are slinking away having accomplished nothing. Minneapolis simply wouldn’t bend to them and they lost
This is an answer to prayer, but instead of rejoicing all I can do is lament.
Islamic extremists killed 200 villagers, while Muslim leaders seek to unseat Nigeria's election commission chairman for decrying Christian genocide.

As a Canadian living in the US, this is my evergreen Super Bowl post.
Lawfully in Minnesota?
As one immigrant member of Messiah, St. Paul reminded me-- for I am also an immigrant--our adoptive country has been known for "the rule of law" and "due process".
That's not too much to ask, is it?
