On paper, Shrill was something I was really looking forward to. I love Ady Bryant, I’m a sucker for a subtle high quality comedy streamer, plus a Dan Savage inspired monster boss!
But man - that show was bleak. She is obviously very traumatized/obsessed with navigating life in her skin.

some lefties turn into weird austerity hawks when it comes to space and like do you actually think it would be invested in social services? come on now
NASA is honestly one of the greatest things humans have ever created, the stuff of math and dreams
Sweetie, you can play the victim all you want, but If you’re gonna be an asshole online, lie about a journalist accurately reporting the news, even wish for harm on that journalist, you’re gonna get called out. Being trans does not shield you from consequences for vile behavior. 🤷
Sure they can - because even when some of those things are absolutely inoffensive in context, the most important thing is to play the victim even in instances where you weren’t victimized and were in fact the bully
There’s a certain subset of people from marginalized communities (like my own queer community) who think the abuses and indignities and humiliations we’ve suffered in life have given them us a license to say and do anything to anyone at any time without being subjected to criticism for bad behavior.
Pointing out his rank hypocrisy is not shaming his fetish. Any more than mocking a closeted gay Republican who votes against gay rights is.
Nah, we’re done with that Roberts Rules of Order bullshit that only one side is concerned with. Too much is at stake to not go for the jugular any time we can. Cry about it if you want.
I’m exhausted with “trauma” being used as a get out of jail free card for every damn thing. I grew up gay in rural Iowa in the 1980s. I can tell you about trauma. Doesn’t give me the license to be an asshole to good reporters just doing their job, or free from the blowback when I am.
lol - dude -
He’s full-blown Maga in his own right, supports Trump, and votes for Republican policies that persecute gender and sexual minorities. So you bet it’s fair game to make fun of him for being that person *while simultaneously* strapping on some big ol titties and playing with sex workers online.
Nah - you’re just high on your own supply and think you can wave the word genocide around like a magic wand to give you the license to do or say anything to anyone at anytime. 🤷
Good lord. He was doing a *livestream of the supreme court decision as it was being released in real time.* This wasn’t an analytical piece, it was literally just summarizing *their* decision and *their^ rationale 60 seconds after they released it. And that is a valuable service queer folks need.
But clearly you do. If you don’t wanna hear it from me, listen to the other trans people on this thread.
He *clearly* said he was referencing *them* using the phrase physical therapy as a euphemism for physical abuse. But I’m sure you know this.
You just think you’ve been given a license to be a bad faith bully to anyone you want online, for any or no reason, without being subject to criticism. Nope.
We need good journalists accurately reporting on political and legal developments to help us fight for our rights.
Bullying a journalist providing us the accurate information we need to plan our battle strategy is both morally disgusting and politically dumb af.
And this is another example of how confused you are about the privileges you think you are entitled to have in online discourse, that others aren’t.
If that’s what you care about, then you shouldn’t defend people bullying journalists accurately reporting on the news you will need to navigate this bigoted world.
On that, we agree.
Governments around the world are also actively persecuting gay man. Doesn’t give me the right to be an asshole online or wish for the death of journalists accurately reporting bad Supreme Court decisions. Grow up kiddo.
It’s funny how cringe is only the most unforgivable internet sin imaginable *sometimes*
Sorry, you’re not the victim for defending attacks on a journalist for accurately reporting about a bad Supreme Court decision. You think your identity shields you from fair criticism, but that’s not true for any of us with our various identities.
After being a Threads refugee for nearly 3 years, I decided to try Bluesky one more time. And my feed is instantly filled with trans people/anime facepics who think they were given a license at birth to tell a journalist to kill himself just for accurately reporting on a bad Supreme Court decision.
Kids, I’m not gonna play semantic games with you. Grow up, learn about allyship, learn about coalition building, and quit thinking you have been given a license to be assholes online. Thread muted.✌️
I’m talking about your defense of the people bullying a journalist for just reporting on a bad Supreme Court decision. Whether you do it yourself or defend them for doing it is irrelevant.
Nothing in your personal life experience justifies bad faith bullying. You didn’t get a free path for this, even if you think you did.
Chiropracty has entered the chat…
Sigh. I was waiting for someone to weigh in with the dumbass “both parties are the same” comment. Right on cue.
Only one thing can save journalism: We must convince 50 Cent he has beef with Bari Weiss.
