Our Executive Director participated on a panel with representatives from Adirondack Watershed Institute and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation to discuss the research on the emerging problems caused by wake sports and the proposed local solutions.
There’s lots of great research happening in the Adirondacks and we’re lucky to have the Adirondack Research Consortium that works to connect researchers with each other and the public.
We were in Albany this week asking the Legislature to include $425 million for the Environmental Protection Fund. The EPF funds maintenance, stewardship and acquisition of State lands in the Adirondacks. We were led by environmental champions Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Deb Glick!
Protect the Adirondacks supports the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464/A1749) introduced by Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Deborah Glick because we need to reduce the amount of plastic in our products and waste streams to get it out of our environment!
Microplastics are found from one end of the Hudson River to the other - from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Tear of the Clouds.
She also called for increasing funding for acquisition of important lands in the Adirondacks, such as Whitney Park, and using tax incentives to help private landowners keep their mature forest lands intact and protected from being converted to other uses.
Protect the Adirondacks Executive Director Claudia Braymer testified at the Joint Legislative Hearing on the State’s Budget about funding for Adirondack programs including visitor centers and research institutions as well as the Adirondack Diversity Initiative and the Timbuctoo Institute.

Protect the Adirondacks is part of the working group sharing info about the negative impacts from wake boats and providing solutions that localities can use to reduce the harm to property, wildlife and water quality.

This amendment will help Adirondack communities revitalize these sites for public benefit, improve management of the State-owned Forest Preserve, and add new wildlands to the Forest Preserve.

Reducing plastic is important for cutting the use of fossil fuels that drive pollution and climate change that threatens the Adirondack Park
Protect the Adirondacks supports modernizing NY’s Bottle Bill. Passing the Bigger Better Bottle Bill will reduce litter across the Park, trash going to landfills, solid waste costs for local municipalities in the Adirondacks and the number of single use plastic bottles being produced.
