Not really for me personally, since it’s all part of the process. Worldbuilding is one area where the author’s most unique creativity shines since grammar and a lot of other craft follows similar rules regardless. But how to create a world with seven moons? Or write within contemporary settings?

I like to know how people came up with stuff—the worldbuilding, the characters. What inspired you? Why are you writing it? What’s the story behind the story? Any little details you really hope people notice or had to cut but love anyway.

The book community would not be anything w/o our artists, our designers, our narrators and/or everyone else involved in making these books happen. If you use gen AI, you’re announcing your lack of respect and solidarity for everyone involved. So why would any of us buy your book?
Read short stories. The markets you submit to want you to read their magazines. Some are free reads. Some are paid reads. Consider spending for 1 month of reads for 2 markets each month who are in your rotation. Get to know what those editors like.

A murky river seen from above with the reflection of a starry sky in it. In the centre, a small wooden dinghy with a person in the back. A giant crocodile is stalking the boat, the head larger than the person in it. Gold text across the bottom: Where Kids Are Monsters. In smaller below: Natalie Kelda. Small text at the top: Inner Universe. Short Story 2.1
I have short stories available!
Erica is dumped on a crocodile-infested beach by a talking parrot. A village nearby could be her salvation, or her doom. Will she find a way home?

AI could never spend hours researching words and meanings and context to create a term only to forget where it came from like real writers ✍🏻

Being READY for a writing career means putting the pieces in place to be ready. Literally. You cannot sit on your hands and be wishful. It takes time and lots of work. It may not be what you want. Thats okay. Just ignore me.
Do the work. Overcome your resistance.

Wait which is unhinged? 👀
I want to stay home and give my dogs the pats and treats they deserve while I write. Not go to work 🙄
Our fear is that this pursuit of democratisation by AI will make automated and synthetic translation the norm, and human translation a luxury reserved only for writers with the highest of profiles, says Anna Ganley and Ian Giles ( @iangiles.bsky.social ) 👇 #BookSky
This cover is everything.
What’s the challenge? Sharing the 20 books?
It is. I feel like I’m in a race against myself.
Ooh I did quick search and that sounds like it has a lot of potential. Thank you!! 🙏🏻
I’m definitely interested in recs and I’m loving the covers on a few of these so I feel like there’s gotta be at least *one* I’ll like. 👀 thank you!!
Watch out folks, new dying breath prophecy just dropped ✨⚔️

One week to read two books for book club.
Two days to finish my personal-choice Libby audiobook.
Minutes since I lasted clicked “borrow now” on the first book of a whole-ass new series.
Don’t send help, I’m fine.

Shovel Ready is my current attempt I’m liking! Gideon the Ninth was good. First Red Rising too, lost me by the second (I struggled through to dnf on the third).
SciFi I started with and liked as a kid was some random picks off shelves and I don’t remember titles sadly. pub’d 70-90’s. Soft, not hard.
Same difference haha I have kindle, play books, and nook on my phone already. What’s one more?

This might just convince me to get a Kobo 👀
No books ever grip as strong as the ones you begin to skim in an aisle and end up reading, transported to another world while your body becomes an obstacle, unattended.
I’m extremely picky about sci-fi, to the point I usually tell people I don’t like it. My partner has decided to help broaden my tastes, and has a list of sci fi audiobooks we’re going to try on an upcoming road trip weekend.
Can it be done?
Can I be convinced?
To be determined…

Hello friends, here for my weekly Bluesky catch-up 👋🏻
This week I drafted 2 short stories, started revisions on a third, finished one beta read and started another, read 4 chapters of The Silmarillion, and drank 5 cans of suspicious fluids.
How’s everyone else?
