On a per gm basis, protein from veg sources is very expensive compared to meat protein.
Protein deficiency in childhood leads to adverse physical & intellectual outcomes.
Banning meat protein in school meals is just a strategy to keep the poor, poor.

Friends, I need some leads. We need to raise funds (substantial) to expand our youth suicide prevention program from 3 cities to across the country.
How do we get CSR funding? A few CSR ppl I spoke to, unfortunately do not have suicide prevention as a priority area for funding!

Yes both words are fascinating when applied to societies!!

"Regression to the mean" is a statistical concept that is so appropriately worded.

Equally applicable to societies as to everything else.

Just look around you.

Tuberculosis rates plunge when families living in poverty get a monthly cash payout A program in Brazil that gives a monthly cash sum to families living in poverty has an unexpected — and welcome result. A new study shows that it is dramatically reducing tuberculosis rates.

"The study is impressive in its scale...cases and deaths dropped by more than 50% and in the Indigenous population the drop was even more dramatic: more than 60%."

Nature Medicine study shows the effects of Bolsa Familia strongest in Black and Indigenous populations

"Overseas tourism is booming around the world, but India is being left behind. India closed its few remaining overseas tourist offices in 2023. The budget for tourism promotion abroad was slashed by two-thirds from 1bn rupees ($12m) that year to just 330m in 2024" :(

I am tired of these complaints here about GST on private health insurance.

GST is not the problem, private health insurance is the real issue.

Healthcare is a public good & should be publicly funded & provided. For all. Free at the point of delivery.

Not just for CGHS babus.

I’ve always been fascinated by how conservatives turned to South Africa in the late 1960s and 1970s to project racist attitudes and fantasies that had become less welcome in polite white society.

So funny to see conservatives battling it out between the "we hate foreigners and want them gone" faction and the "we hate foreigners and want them as indentured servants" faction.

Truly an ideological battle for the ages.

Casteism is the same as racism. Probably worse, actually, because it’s a two-in-one.

The conversations that Americans have on Twitter are mind-boggling to say the least!

This is the supreme irony of the MAGA schism over H-1Bs. Many workers who stayed at Twitter after Musk’s takeover did so because their status in the US was contingent on their employment. They kept a site running that was then used by MAGA folks to question why they were here in the first place.

Things appear to be going swimmingly over on Twitter. I'd like to point out, however, that Elon illegally overstayed a student visa - he didn't have an H1B. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Sidharth tweeted: I'm deeply questioning my decision to support the Republican Party after witnessing the persistent and dehumanizing attacks directed at me and my community by individuals who, despite hiding behind a veneer of respectability, openly harbor and amplify racist ideologies. l've tried to hold onto the belief that these voices represent a vocal minority, not the broader values of the party. But time and again, I am disheartened as accounts with massive followings—many of them wielding significant influence—parrot unhinged conspiracy theories and perpetuate overtly racist tropes without consequence.

Sorry for the cross post but Jesus Christ almighty.

Good ol’ Sidharth really showed his ass by pointing out that “dehumanizing attacks” only became a problem for him after they were turned on him & his community. The dehumanizing attacks against *gestures wildly* EVERYONE ELSE were just fine tho.
