Sir, I was a bartender, then a lawyer, now a journalist. (I’m sure you can see that all three are of a piece. Politician fits in there as well.) But working behind the rail is an education in people that no prestigious law- or j-school could ever confer.

This. I’ll never forget Trey polling the audience at Great Woods, just before Coventry, about whether the Fishman songs were a waste of time, and I just can’t imagine this band without that stuff.
I’ll take it!
Probably not. Still - go Bruins! 😁
No, trust me, @jimclarkeden.bsky.social and I are right about this one.
Go Bruins!
If you walk past a newsstand in New York, that’s exactly what it is, except the guy who works at the stand doesn’t have to listen to you whining
There's a war on for your mind.

Yes! Haha.
This is some eldritch horror shit.
My wife feels similarly, but I disagree!
Photo of a Nestle Chunky bar and its packaging from the 1980s.
This is some real “Ozymandias”-type shit.
Alas no, I’m doing what’s known as “couch tour.” (Phish simulcasts their shows for people like me who hate Vegas.)
#Phish: Trey, pal, buddy boy, man, you gotta stop playing songs in the wrong key. God! Shit.
#Phish: holy mother of god the end of Reba was a disaster. I’m guessing Trey picked up in the wrong key after the whistling, Page (with the good ears) joined him quickly, and poor Mike was left twisting in the wind.
Oh huh! That’s very odd indeed.
It has to be to sync with the Sphere visuals, right?
Holy childhood flashback.
Exactly. We used to store them in buckets of cooking oil but vacuum sealing works just as well and is a lot less messy.
To be honest? Salt. It all comes down to salt. Not much has changed since humans first figured out how to dry-preserve meat.
I’ve been making it since I was a little kid and I can’t ever remember someone getting ill.
A grey granite countertop, with a small vacuum sealing machine and a pile of soppressata next to it. There are sealer bags, discard twine, and scissors as well.
Vacuuming approximately 50 pounds of homemade soppressata, as one does after midnight on a Friday night.
(In this video, you can see me fooling with my phone. I had to record the moment for myself. Very unprofessional but I couldn't care less.)
"Zion Bound." Zion is an important concept in Rasta culture, and it most often means Ethiopia, but in the sense of a place to where the freed people shall return.
Forward unto Zion, Ernie Smith. We who are left behind will miss you tremendously. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG7w...
Last two, though I could have posted dozens more.
"Don't Worry Mama." The lyrics of this one destroy me every time. Heartbreaking but somehow uplifting.
I'm privileged to be singing backup on this recording. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nRR...
*LIFE is Just for Living. Sheesh.
"Live is Just for Living." Ernie at his most commercial, this was used for a big Red Stripe campaign, and won him a Yamaha music award in Japan. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6x2...
"Brown Sugar." Oh god, what a melody. The chorus is just so good. I wish I could write one song like this in my whole life. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGtE...
"Longfellow Serenade." People here know that I mostly loathe Neil Diamond, but I could listen to Ernie do this cover on repeat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG8p...
