Surreal digital painting of someone peeking out of large black holes in a beautiful, sunny sky. The person has greyish skin and is barely visible except for one eye, their nose and a few fingers.

NEW PERSONAL WORK

I had a dream I was drawing thumbnails, and - in the dream - sketched this out and titled it "The Dreamer". That was striking enough that I woke up, sketched out the thumbnail in real life, and then sat on it for like eight years. Until now!

The way the birds are positioned almost feels like they're guarding a secret - I love the mood of this piece and the gold leaf that compliments it.

It's throwing spaghetti at a wall until something sticks. or in the case of how I draw, until I 'accidentally' form a plane that i need, and keep following it up or down, wider or narrower. I really hope that makes sense 😅

this is not really a linear process, but when i'm really stuck i draw about 5 million really tight loops in the vague direction of the pose i want until i can 'see' the form. sometimes i don't see the form and i draw several sets of them.
it works better for tube-shaped things like legs... but!

Last month I decided to make a giant refboard of every god tier artist Ive ever loved and started "consulting the gods" throughout the art process.

Not to be all "how to level up with one simple trick!" But also this was how I improved with one simple trick.

This second image is also stylized like the first. But it's darker, from within an alcove peering out at the green and lush outside.

Here's a rendering technique I've been toying with over the last couple of months in Unreal. It will be used in the upcoming game "Valley of the Lost Abbey" by @rucach.bsky.social

The effect is calculated at runtime with the goal of making any scene look more painterly.

if you want to know how important it is for you to do this math: the fees patreon took from me in 2025 add up to roughly 3 months of income. that's 3 months of income i would have paid taxes on if i didn't deduct the fees from the 1099. 3 months of income i never actually had!

From Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers: ‘At a crossroads in his career, he confessed to the esteemed poet Maya Angelou that he was searching for his artistic voice. He remembers her saying, “Go out into the world, soak it up like a sponge. Go back to your studio and wring it out.”’

‘Morning Dew III (One gentle push more, perhaps?)” by Eetu Sihvonen captures a magical world hidden within a water droplet. This fabulous sculpture uses a combination of oak wood, 3D printed soy-based paraffin oil and dye.

Linkedin Post from a Pinterest designer reading: "Yesterday I was impacted by the Pinterest layoffs. I was Pinterest's only icon designer and product illustrator.

In his email to the company, the CEO said "we’re doubling down on an AI-forward approach – prioritizing AI-focused roles, teams, and ways of working". I WAS working on AI projects including the Pinterest Assistant that soft-launched in October. If you haven't heard about that feature launch, you can find it on Pinterest's own newsroom or with a Google search.

I was vocal internally about how our users don't want AI slop or features on the platform, how we as employees are feeling uncomfortable and discouraged about AI, and what I wanted from leadership. Last year, I told my manager I was worried about AI-based layoffs. I was told not to worry. At an onsite, we were told that "in the future", we would all be "managers of AIs". That I would be expected to manage some sort of AI employees, rather than craft and design my own work.

Human-made art and design matter. I am never going to stop creating, even if the "home of inspiration" decides that creators are secondary to profits.

If you want to support me, you can follow me on threads or instagram @bonniekatewolf where I post my hand-knit sweaters and oil paintings. If you want to hire a human illustrator, designer, or iconographer, my email and DMs are open for freelance, contract, or FTE roles."
