Burt Hooton sighting…

Hey, Mr. @mikebatestwibh.bsky.social - have a great rest of the weekend…
Only AL game that day - first no hitter in that league’s history (even though this was the minor league season of the AL.
The bulk of those gains didn’t happen until Trump’s 1st admin. Then they jumped up like crazy. Without casting specific blame, I wonder what changed after 2016 and 2017?
That’s not completely true. Many east coast teams were paying their players, including Washington, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Boston. They claimed to be amateur. Cincy was the first to own it…
In Washington’s case if players weren’t paid by clubs, they had government clerk positions given to them.
Not out of business - NYSE: MOS. Stock hasn’t been doing great though…
We are missing one other element - a transmitter. With the right sized magnet, it would be “streamless”…
I think we have an invention here.
I have the one on the right and a later soft back edition.
Boxes with records that you could cut out of the box featuring songs by The Monkees. Shout out to @MickeyDolenz…
Just spitballing here, but the penny conducts electricity. So, if connected to a battery, it might charge your phone whilst relieving oneself.

I remember collecting those as a kid. They got me interested in sports other than the majors, including the Tour de France and boxing history.
Of course - send it back when you’re done.
Cheers!
Matt - DM me an address and I can mail it to you if you want.
It’s been 40 years but I can still picture running hard for a ball in the gap, thinking I could get to it and watching it sail 30 feet over my head where I thought it should be coming down.
More than 100 years ago the Browns had a pitcher/pinch hitter named Dode Criss. Seemed like a good idea at the time but never caught on. Criss wasn’t an ace reliever - more of a mop up guy - but he could do both roles enough.
I’m older now and my memory … (lame age excuse) 😎
Title page for Presidential Problems, 1904, by Grover Cleveland.
Title page…
Sorry - it was presidential problems. Not constitutional - but maybe related.
Noted.
I have a really old book he wrote about constitutional situations I need to read. It was a gift but I’ve had other obligations.
Cleveland and Arthur always fascinated me.
An old Billy Sunday baseball card found on the Library of Congress (LOC.GOV) website. My post includes a Billy Sunday and Ed Williamson short story.
Digging through old newspapers:
Future evangelist Billy Sunday was playing the piano in the hotel lobby when his White Stockings teammate Ed Williamson entered. Ed asked, "Hey, Billy. Why do you always play religious songs on that piano?"
Sunday quickly replied, "Because it's an upright piano."
Half the team wants no business being in the picture.
For whatever reason, I remember getting a Marty Pattin card in the first pack I remember ever buying at some corner store near my grandparents house in Chicago. Pattin managed the Jayhawks for a while…
Cheers!
He looked great on opening day, too. Throws hard in the strike zone and isn’t wasting pitches. It’s two starts against two awful teams, but baseball thrives on optimism and it’s all good right now.
I know I’m on the other side here. Go find the first strip. I feel like it captures the meanness that follows Charlie Brown. Lucy personifies it. Great Pumpkin is harsh.
Snoopy was genius material and nobody lived off merch like Schulz. I appreciate his place in history.
C&H is my fav.
Cheers!
It’s okay. I can accept that I will be in the minority. I’ll give you Snoopy and the merchandise, but I rewatched Great Pumpkin and it wasn’t all that nice.
I’ve also been to the Schulz museum and all. I appreciate the position in history. It’s just not my cup of tea.
Cheers!
I’ll be honest, I never got it.
I’m okay with Peanuts being buried under the dustbin of history.
Using your feedback, I linked to a history of the Howard and found an image. The Howard had moved on from theatre and opera to vaudeville and burlesque during the years Lyons would have been learning the ropes there.
It doesn't fit in the bio, but in a presentation I'd include that stuff.
