They make powder you can mix with anything to thicken for people who need it. Now I'm imagining a kind of horrifying line of "thick cocktails."

I think the unrealistic optimism is harder for me to take than unrealistic pessimism. For one thing, in the real world, my existing cynicism keeps proving too optimistic.

I have tried solarpunk. Some of what gets categorized like that works for me but some of it feels very unrealistic in terms of how humans interact with each other (obviously speculative fiction is going to speculate, but some solarpunk feels like one dimensional wish fulfillment).

In the moment, it feels like you're helpfully telling someone something interesting you happen to know about the world. It doesn't feel contemptuous, it feels good, like you're being helpful and friendly. Ugh, embarrassing. That "helpful friendly" feeling is a key flag to watch out for.

Tbf it is a LOT harder to recognize when you're doing it than when it's being done to you. I didn't do exactly this but once caught myself explaining something about a place I had been a tourist to an immigrant (male) from that country and shut up as soon as I realized it.

I just saw a headline about a funny AI mistake and went on a mental riff about pretending it was real and then the 'funny' just fell flat. I guess "humorous tech-generated mistakes" is yet another category of thing I used to enjoy but now just makes me sad and angry because of this shitty timeline.

I used to regard conspiracy theories as wacky fun until they metastasized and destroyed the country. I used to love cyperpunk dystopian fiction until it started to feel too real.

Don’t have the extra $ for this now anyways, but I am both interested in an e-bike and also hesitant to invest in one due to the ease of theft. Are there really truly good bike theft prevention measures these days?

It’s upsetting how low she was polling. She’s so sane and competent! But that doesn’t grab headlines or wallets the way it should. At any rate, there are many still in the race who should also bow out now, for the good of the electorate.

An underrated 21st century skill is knowing what level of digital friendship you should have with somebody. Getting that Instagram request and being able to say, "no, LinkedIn mutuals is right for us." Tough when you realize belatedly that you don't actually want to know what your gym trainer thinks

It’s a shame. She was an extremely excellent state controller, and she would be a great Governor. But clearly she wasn’t getting money & traction, and so much of that comes down to bias.

I prefer longer books. I don’t feel like I really get into the world or the characters if the book is too short.

Goudier Island was a pretty wonderful location, the weather and light shifted two or three times in the couple hours we were there, as always, the best moments were often the few seconds where the light was visibly changing.

I have tickets to see her in a couple months, sounds like the show is as perfect as expected. ❤️🧙

i think you shouldn’t GM a game like Shadowrun if you believe something far more tame than its world lore is impossible

Through the comments, I found the term “algorithmic folklore” to describe made up things that get picked up as true by AI. As a religious Discordian, I both love and hate this.

OPD is asking to enter into a new no-bid contract w/Israeli cell cracking firm Cellebrite, even tho the contract is increasing by 55%. Cellebrite has been used against Palestinians in Israel's genocidal war, as well as dissidents in Jordan, Myanmar. etc

Visiting DC the first time, I was surprised by the subway ads for surface-to-air missiles. But being from SF with our constant b2b tech tools advertising, I quickly realized DC is an industry town just like mine, only a different industry. Overheard bar & cafe chatter is the same too, I see.

Solidarity. We are all just people dealing with gender baggage the world has assigned us. I hope you find the inclusive spaces you deserve. 💛🤍💜🖤

I know nonbinary groups not being inclusive of amab people is a thing and agree it sucks, but can we not call afab nonbinary people “women+”? It’s really hurtful. Nonconsensually gendering each other is the problem.
