Tempo The world moves to an unheard melody. Tempo is a trait that sets the pace of the game. The higher the Tempo, the more danger you’re likely to incur. Tempo is divided into three tiers – Adagio (slow), Moderato (moderate), and Allegro (fast). The MC may up the tempo as a risky consequence, and players can bring it back down again by utilising a Set-up Action. At the start of every match and errand, start a repeating 4-tick Tempo clock. Whenever a character rolls a 1 on an Action Roll, add one tick to the clock – this includes all dice rolled, not just the highest. When the clock fills, the MC takes one Tempo token. This token may be spent to inflict a consequence at any time. The severity of the consequence depends on the level the Tempo was at when the token was earned. As such, Tempo tokens come in three varieties: Adagio tokens, Moderato tokens, and Allegro tokens. Adagio tokens can be spent to inflict a controlled consequence, Moderato tokens to inflict a risky consequence, and Allegro tokens to inflict a desperate consequence. Two tokens of a type may be discarded to take one token of a tier higher.
