I have no idea if that is true. I have no idea what students are up to, in the US or otherwise, and I haven't even tried to find out via reading. Maybe they're all just on their phones stuffing their faces, going "haha, go ICE". But I really fucking doubt it. Most silence is not apathy, I think.
my kneejerk thought is, because young people are struggling and scared enough and generally speaking, students need more support from non-students. They fight for so much based on pure idealism, and wider society sometimes just, at best, takes it and goes "yeah okay thanks, now keep struggling".
