IDF commanders told Haaretz that southern Lebanon is being demolished “like Gaza.” The declared goal is to prevent civilians from being able to return.
Both are war crimes punishable under international law.

Postar den här tråden igen, eftersom den är så jäkla viktig. Varje progressivt projekt behöver ta som en viktig utgångspunkt de regelverk som omgärdar statlig och kommunal budgetering. Relationen mellan stat och kommun (och regioner) är central.
Every single article covering Israel should start by mentioning that they dubbed yesterday's operations in Lebanon "eternal darkness."
You know that so much has already been normalised when this isn't even a cause for outrage.
303 people, at least, were murdered yesterday by Israel.
400 dead so far, over 1000 injured, dozens and dozens missing. This is one hour into the massacre. I have no idea what the death toll will be in the end. Also, they have announced “another wave” of attacks coming

• That’s up from 53% last year and 42% in 2022.
• In both political parties, a majority of adults under age 50 view Israel negatively. (84% of Democrats, 57% of Republicans)

🇱🇧🔴112 people killed in Israeli strikes today across Lebanon, mostly in Beirut. 837 wounded.
This is the latest and not the final count from Lebanon's health ministry, in one of the deadliest days of the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah.
More attacks on Beirut just now.
White House saying Lebanon not included in ceasefire. Iran saying attacks must stop or they will not take part in discussions.

Apartheid, evidence #357
The Knesset just passed a law mandating "Death Penalty for Terrorists", that will effectively apply only to Palestinians.
But the Americans are like us. Almost every European country is 1-2 bad elections removed from being taken over by the far-right, so let's not pretend this is a uniquely American problem

Aviv Tatarsky. One of the most committed Jewish Israeli activists in defending Palestinians in the West Bank. Attacked by settlers viciously yesterday in Dir Istya where he was helping a Palestinian farmer. Israeli soldiers were there and did nothing.

Declaring that no quarter will be given unequivocally violates international humanitarian law. Indeed, ordering that no quarter will be given, threatening an adversary therewith or conducting hostilities on this basis is prohibited and constitutes a war crime.
🔴🇱🇧 Over half a million people (517,000) have been displaced in #Lebanon over the past week in the latest conflict b/w Israel and Hezbollah, the government said
The number is likely higher as the government data comes from the amount of people who registered on their platform
Less than one week; 395 people killed
This looks great!

Three days ago, Israel ordered the south evacuated. Two days ago, they did the same to the southern suburbs. That’s more than one million people. Some, the most vulnerable, are sleeping rough by the sea or on sidewalks. Today, it is raining. War harms the poor the most.

If you combine the inherent uncertainty of war with Trump, I think literally anything is possible now. We may see a revolution in Iran after weeks of bombing. Perhaps Trump declares "victory" within the hour. We might even see a Gulf monarchy collapse somehow
This is like the Iraq war - only more stupid, less planned, and with worse consequences (I didn’t think either of three was possible).
I spent a bunch of time arguing that, based on available evidence, the Trump White House has no long-term plan for the Iran war, no answer for what happens next. Sen. Lindsey Graham confirms that, except I meant it as a criticism, and he, bafflingly, means it as a defense.
Trump’s 2016 criticism of the Iraq war was the US didn’t do enough war crimes. He argued that the US should’ve stolen oil and killed insurgents’ innocent family members.
That’s what some prominent media figures presented to the public as isolationist, anti-intervention, anti-war, “Donald the Dove.”

Some thoughts on what Trump has done in Venezuela and what it might mean for US national security. Caveat: not a Latin America scholar so this is focused on US policy. Clearly huge consequences for Venezuela that others can address.
First, despite the buildup, I didn't think Trump would do it.
