Review of DCI Champions - SCV 1973
Considering how merciless the tick scoring system was, this was a crazy ambitious show. Polyrhythms, very isolated parts, even segments that (I suspect) were beyond what the G bugles could even do well.
And they still won.
They could have had a MUCH easier show.

Overall thoughts - they just played the fun tunes they liked, no need for a theme. And there was far more scatter drill than I expected for the time. Guess it’s not a newer invention after all.
Watching all the championship shows. Was not aware the first ever gold medalist corps played “Micky Mouse Club March”.
Blue Devils could never.
I’ll do you one better - make it Xhosa, the South African “clicking language”

Oh the grand old Duke of York!
He had ten million quid!
He gave it to someone he “never met”
For something he “never did”!
Get to tapping!
Will it make it better or worse if I say “Only SCV needs a cymbal line. The rest are for the people who aren’t good enough for real percussion playing.”?
Hey drummers, you know what you need to do now:

Are we still mad about the slow death of marching cymbals in DCI, or was that a 2019 thing?
I’m convinced Boston’s show last year was designed with “second screens” in mind, eg - people are looking at their phones and only look up for the gimmicks.
Show announcement reaction: Music City - “Venomorphosis”
Sleep Token?
Are we going to be moody teens this year? 🤣
And the rest is an original composition. That’s a lot of writing to play to empty stands.

Now I’m off to rearrange my Power Rangers toys, leave me be while we combine the Megazord.
Summer Olympics: running, jumping, throwing, backflips

I have to applaud The Academy.
You’ve outlived all the drum corps that deserve to be here instead.
Saw a post today that said “They need to bring back the Glassmen!”

We've upgraded our Age Assurance system to comply with upcoming laws in Australia and other regions, and to restore access to people over 18 in Mississippi.
Plus, we fixed some bugs and laid the groundwork for improved "who to follow" suggestions in the near future.
Because these audible ads keep being forced on me, I’ll respond:
The only reason they’re re-recording the Harry Potter audio books is due to Rowling being mad at Stephen Fry for calling out her TERF bullshit.
Don’t buy it.
Mandarins not fielding a corps in 2026 ☹️

Oh shit I didn’t prepare! The big day is in 1 hour 40 mins!
Ok my marching arts folks,
It’s marching band season for real.
Share your band with me so I can enjoy and/or roast it too
I know I sound like a broken record, but the level of achievement in Open Class is so good, especially compared to back in the day when I marched.
Div 2/3 was leagues behind Div 1. OC now is right on the heels of the big dogs now.
Where will the go next, I wonder?
Congratulations to Cadets staff for their latest victory
FINALS IS STILL HAPPENING, TROOPERS! Calm down! The corpse isn’t even cold yet!
Anyway, Troopers have announced their 2026 program before the 2025 season is done.
It’s Finals day and I’m like 18,000 kms away 😭
The Mandarins must have a meet up with the two International Class groups from Beijing
Oh shit is it finals week already?!
Positive spin - doing so helps the rest of us know who to avoid
