Review of DCI Champions - SCV 1973
Considering how merciless the tick scoring system was, this was a crazy ambitious show. Polyrhythms, very isolated parts, even segments that (I suspect) were beyond what the G bugles could even do well.
And they still won.
They could have had a MUCH easier show.
Overall thoughts - they just played the fun tunes they liked, no need for a theme. And there was far more scatter drill than I expected for the time. Guess it’s not a newer invention after all.
Watching all the championship shows. Was not aware the first ever gold medalist corps played “Micky Mouse Club March”.

I’m convinced Boston’s show last year was designed with “second screens” in mind, eg - people are looking at their phones and only look up for the gimmicks.
