ABA
It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day.
Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accordance with the rule of law and in an orderly manner that respects the lives of affected individuals and the work they have been asked to perform.
Instead, we see wide-scale affronts to the rule of law itself, such as attacks on constitutionally protected birthright citizenship, the dismantling of USAID and the attempts to criminalize those who support lawful programs to eliminate bias and enhance diversity.
We have seen attempts at wholesale dismantling of departments and entities created by Congress without seeking the required congressional approval to change the law. There are efforts to dismiss employees with little regard for the law and protections they merit, and social media announcements that disparage and appear to be motivated by a desire to inflame without any stated factual basis. This is chaotic. It may appeal to a few.
But it is wrong. And most Americans recognize it is wrong.
It is also contrary to the rule of law.
The American Bar Association supports the rule of law. That means holding governments, including our own, accountable under law. We stand for a legal process that is orderly and fair.
We have consistently urged the administrations of both parties to adhere to the rule of law. We stand in that familiar place again today. And we do not stand alone. Our courts stand for the rule of law as well.

Not exaggerating when I say I would like a personal, handwritten apology from every pundit who barfed out a dozen "the left wants to change the way you talk!" op-eds based on non-mandatory guidelines in obscure PDFs.

"While Biden trampled on it." The Biden DOJ prosecuted Sen. Menendez (D-NJ), Rep. Cueller (D-TX), and refused to prosecute Matt Gaetz (R-FL). Meanwhile, Mike Johnson was the architect of Trump's effort to undermine Biden's 2020 win, culminating into an insurrection at the Capitol.

Pure projection.

So............ I have to teach about the U.S. Constitution today to an introductory level class.

How on earth am I supposed to pretend everything is just working normally?

Answer: I'm not going to pretend. I'm telling it like it is.

all I know is that had President Biden forced out the FAA chief under pressure from his top adviser and his corrupt motives, and then the next week there was a plane crash that killed more than 60 people, Republicans would be howling that it was an impeachable offense.

The guy who will approve military force against US Citizens at a whim just became secretary of defense. We’re fucked.

Expect them to burn some important building down and Trump to receive Emergency powers next.

The same people having a temper tantrum over DEI just confirmed the least qualified Secretary of Defense in US history because Trump liked him on TV.

An artist (Liberal Jane) drawing of a group of people. The person in the middle holds a sign saying “I don’t know how to convince you to care about other people.”

We are declaring drug trafficking cartels as terrorist organizations but Trump pardons the guy who ran the biggest online illegal drug market ever (silk road)? As an explicit political favor?

We keep hearing about masculinity from the Zuckerbergs of the world-- this woman has shown more courage in this 60-second clip than any of the tech billionaires have shown in recent memory as they grovel at Trump's feet.

Jesus famously said: separate the children from the refugees so they will suffer maximum pain and desperation and learn not to seek peace and shelter in your land.

Amen.

Today is January 6th and no one is watching the Capitol be plundered, feces being smeared on the walls, and police officers being stabbed with American flags.

Why? Because one side believes in democracy no matter what, and the other side only believes in it only when they win.

congratulations to the atlanta falcons for replacing their decidedly substandard quarterback with both a very expensive vet and a first-round draft pick, then the very next season, with the season on the line, just barely surviving a pretty bad performance by said substandard quarterback
