A big horse. Friesland or Shire horse. Or a mean horse, like a Shetland pony.

I'm already onto it :D I bought a five pack of Audible credits as soon as I'd finished Rhesus Chart, that pretty much decided for me that I was listening to the whole series.

Just listened to The Rhesus Chart by @cstross.bsky.social more than a decade late, and /what/ an ending. Intensely cool.

I’ll Laugh As You Bury Me: New Zealand, America and Cultural Hegemony All science fiction has its basis in the real world. This is the real world I base mine in. It has jokes and cups of tea and big smiles. Sometimes I’m in awe of the power of fiction to unite us. I …

The world has changed so much since I wrote this, but at the end of the day it's still an essay I had a breakdown writing, an essay that took days because I couldn't stop crying long enough to write

Just visited the Newark Bookshop in the English town of the same name. It has a small but /immaculately/ chosen SF and graphic novel selection. #books #bookshop.

"It isn't possible to not age; I never thought I would remain the same. That's what would be weird, in fact: to endure raw time and the obvious, profound insincerities of existence and be recognizable at the end. It's psycho shit; I don't honor it."

I assume this is a tabletop, but if you've taken up making wargames terrain, excellent sandbar, that'll look a beaut with a bunch of space elves smashing people across it.

Genuinely quite excited to see a version of Standard that isn't all Izzet and Mono Red. Also @tjohnlinward.bsky.social has done a great job on the writeup here.

Of all Star Wars' many licensed board games, here are the worst We’ve covered the best, now here’s the rest - the cheesier the branding and the worse the application of the Star Wars theme, the better.

Rubbish Star Wars board games - we love 'em. Well, all right, 'love' isn't the right word, but roasting them is a rare delight.

Ulysses It little profits that an idle king,

Unexpected side effect of 40k fandom (and reading Dan Abnett in particular) - being (re)introduced to some fabulous poetry. Ulysses by Lord Tennyson is a fucking jam.

The family cat, Nick, died yesterday. It's not clear how - we just found him dead in the back garden, not a mark on him. He was a wonderful beast. Born in a hedge, we never expected to domesticate him, but he grew into the most sociable, human centred cat I've ever known. We're all very sad.
