A big man with long Indian-style shirt, grey hair, beard and black-rimmed glasses is hugging the shoulders of a radiant woman with shoulder-length black hair, who is holding a certificate in her left hand. Both are standing in front of a stage; the logo of Sense International India is displayed twice on a screen in the background.

Posting about India: We are delighted to share that Dr. Sini Regi Thomas has received the Sense International India Excellence Award for Best Mentor 2025 (National). Sini is also a member of DbI's newly formed Committee for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion DEICom.

Perspective: I am
deafblind due to Usher Syndrome, not measles. This is a genetic quirk and my parents could not have foreseen it .
While I live a great life despite having Ushers, I would not wish it on anyone.
There is no way I could live with knowing I created AVOIDABLE deafblindness .

What a great idea to make presentations more accessible with situationally drawn infographics. And what a pleasant meeting with the President and Executive Director of the World Federation of the Deaf, Dr Joseph J. Murray and Pamela Molina.

Gene therapy in children with AIPL1-associated severe retinal dystrophy: an open-label, first-in-human interventional study Our findings indicate that young children with AIPL1-related retinal dystrophy benefited substantially from subretinal administration of rAAV8.hRKp.AIPL1, with improved visual acuity and functional vi...

Thrilled to see this monumental work in @thelancet.bsky.social! A single subretinal injection led to staggering improvements in nearly blind children, while behavioural and EEG data from our lab reveal a dramatic boost in function and cortex activity. Glottolog 5.1 - Sign Language

On #InternationalMotherLanguageDay, I'm highlighting the 227 sign languages listed in Glottolog 5.1: glottolog.org/resource/lan...
I'd also like to point out that many deaf children do not have access to their national/local deaf community sign language: this is a linguistic human rights emergency.

Treat someone special (you) this Valentine's Day. Regular eye tests are crucial for detecting early signs of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). So this AMD Awareness Month, make yourself your number one priority. ❤️
