The state has banned āThe Bluest Eyeā by Toni Morrison from ALL high school library shelves.
The āclassicsā are safe, they promised.

Families of the children from Minab School sent a letter to Pope Leo XIV, thanking him for his peace efforts and urging him to be the voice for their voiceless children. āWe ask you to continue to be the voice of children without a voice and to strive to open paths of dialogue"

Partisan aspects of these races aside, good evidence here of the value of *pro-opportunity framing* in school board races by candidates who refuse to demonize kids and teachers and instead call for expanding opportunity for all in public schools. open.substack.com/pub/educatio...
Russ Vought set out to ensure a second Trump term would not be hampered by checks and balances:
āI donāt want President Trump having to lose a moment of time having fights in the Oval Office about whether something is legal or doable or moral.ā

We didn't deserve this day.
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" ā instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois

RAPID ACTION ALERT: WHITE HOUSE TONIGHT
Emergency protest at the White House at 7 PM. This morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: āA whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.ā He has set an 8 PM deadline for Iran to reopen the
AOC: This is a threat of genocide and merits removal from office. The Presidentās mental faculties are collapsing and cannot be trusted. To every individual in the Presidentās chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat.
Not one word of this is hyperbole.
Dylan Williams @dylanotes This meets the threshold for intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national group as set forth in 18 US Code § 1091 prohibiting the crime of genocide. It any Iranians are killed pursuant to this threat, President Trump will be guilty of genocide, as will those assisting him. Rapid Respo... @RapidRespo... ⢠4h Donald J. Trump @realDonald Trump A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!
Called my Senators and Representative, urging them to cut their recess short, show up in DC, and prepare articles of impeachment against Trump for violating "18 US Code § 1091 prohibiting the crime of genocide," as so clearly explained by my @cipolicy.bsky.social colleague @dylanwilliams.bsky.social
I have a father and mother in law in Iran. I have a sister in law. A niece. She's 14. She likes silly pink headbands and purses and dresses, just like kids her age all over the world. There are 93 million people like her in Iran. People who do all the normal mundane life things as the rest of us.
Let me say this plainly: Iranian children have as much of a right to live and thrive as American children.
Their babies MUST be as precious to me as my 6 niblings and my baby grandnib are IF I want them to have a future.
If I want a future for my kin AND humanity, I MUST act like it.
So must you.
That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress beforehand, or our allies, or coherently explain to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.
Reminder that Congress has the power to stop this.
Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.
Honestly, after that Trump post, Iām begging @nytimes.com, @apnews.com, @reuters.com, @washingtonpost.com, @npr.org and all of the other newspapers and media outlets to take this seriously. This is not normal and we need to stop pretending. This is a crisis.

fwiw, mail voting as practiced today is actually quite high tech & extremely reliable (high tech print runs that put the correct races on each voter's ballot, high tech use of bar codes w/o IDing people). the whole west coast has mailed a ballot to all voters for multiple elections without problems
Q: āA new report says the military investigation has found the United States struck the school in Iran. As Commander in Chief, do you take responsibility for that?ā
Trump: āI donāt know about it.ā
Breaking News: New video adds to evidence that a U.S. missile likely hit an Iranian school where 175 people, many of them children, were reportedly killed.

Important brief guidance from Democracy Forward on some federal anti-"DEI" efforts that are now not enforceable.
Yesterday, those who teach Intro to Sociology at Florida colleges (as opposed to universities) received a ready-made curriculum from the state and were ordered to teach it.
Yes, you read that correctly. The *state* is enforcing a curriculum on college profs, complete w/ the following restrictions:
I am doing a lit review of research published since 2020 that documents the K-12 opportunity consequences of newly spiking restriction pressures.

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, Iāll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls weāve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.
Iāve been thinking today about how our undergraduates have been witnessing this behavior as a national model since elementary school. Thatās what Iām thinking about.
There is no justification for racism. There is no justification for using AI, a meme, or stereotype to advance racist agendas and spread disinformation. Dehumanizing Black communities and communities of color will never be okay.
