That Star Destroyer is long gone before Kirk and Scotty have even turned around to face the front of the Enterprise.
And by "miles" I assume you're referring to the miles of film they used to shoot that endless flyby of the Enterprise?
Watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture again for my next Trek, Actually video. Just about to start the movie, so if anyone needs me that's where I'll be for the next twenty years.

What?
What About the People of Iran?
Oh, absolutely. I'm a big believer in Star Trek doing biting, serious, pertinent social commentary and having important things to say, but I think it needs to be able to lean into the inescapable goofiness of the whole thing, too. Silly episodes would be a must.
And I think they desperately need to do that again. Make a new show, about a new ship and new people, telling new stories. Make a show that is Star Trek through and through, but that isn't up its own ass with 60 years of lore, and doesn't feel like you need to have done the homework to enjoy it.
I love making that point to people who bring up "Relics" in defense of how more recent shows use legacy characters and nostalgia.
It's a silly thing to go on about, I know, since it's just me indulging in the same sort of pointless fanwank that I rolls my eyes at when others do it, but simply put, no, they didn't "already try that" in the current era, not at all, not remotely.
None of this has anything to do with the quality of the shows. SNW doesn't fit my "what would I do" proposal at all when it comes to prequel/legacy, but it's been (mostly) a great show, for example. Prodigy didn't fit in many ways either, but it was also mostly outstanding.
The show that comes the closet to meeting the guidelines in my OP is probably Starfleet Academy. It's a de facto sequel to Disco, but is far more interested in creating its own stories. It features a few Disco alumni and one very prominent legacy, but doesn't center on them.
No explicit sequels/prequels: Disco was a defacto prequel to TOS at the very least, SNW is explicitly a prequel to TOS, Picard is explicitly a sequel to TNG and the TNG movies. Lower Decks isn't an explicit sequel/prequel, but goes out of its way to reference previous shows.
No legacy characters: Disco's second season heavily featured Spock and Captain Pike, Picard was a legacy-o-rama, Lower Decks regularly trotted out legacy characters for no reason other than just to do it, and the regular cast of SNW features more legacy character than originals.
Episodic format: Disco and Picard were both heavily serialized for the entirety of their runs, with only handful of standalone episodes. Not coincidentally, the few standalone episodes they did produce were among the high points of those series.
Solicit pitches from writers who have never worked on Trek: Despite all the whining from angry fandom menace nerds about recent creative teams "knowing nothing about Star Trek," franchise veterans and devoted Trekkies have played very large roles BTS in every current era show.
Noticing a few folks (mostly on Twitter — not surprisingly) with poor reading comprehension or who haven't actually watched any of the recent shows or (likely) both replying with "Derp, isn't that what they already tried?" And — fun fact — no, dipshit, it's not. I'll try to keep this short:

Don't forget "Relics"! That'll get you up to three episodes out of 178.
I'll sit wherever I please.
I think they must have fallen down and hit their head on something hard.
