Congratulations! Llongyfarchiadau!
I’m none the wiser even after reading the whole description. Gāmini Salgādo is a name from the past. Professor at Exeter, scholar of Lawrence.
Best response: Samuel Beckett, ‘¡UPTHEREPUBLIC!’
I fear so. It’s from Nancy Cunard’s Authors Take Sides on the Spanish War. Machen was one of only 5 pro-Franco authors (others included Waugh and Blunden, the rotters). 16 neutrals (including Eliot, Wells, and surprisingly Pound). 127 pro-Republican, including, bizarrely, Aleister Crowley.
‘Mr Arthur Machen presents his compliments and begs to inform that he is, and always has been, entirely for General Franco.’ Boo!!
