'Will there be war over Taiwan? Structural stability and policy pitfalls in cross-Strait deterrence' by Brandon K Yoder
🔗 buff.ly/1Bzsonm
@polstudiesassoc.bsky.social
This article argues cross-Strait deterrence remains structurally stable. Reunification by force carries extreme risks for China, and its benefits from retaking Taiwan are tenuous. Reunification by force is thus unlikely, barring fundamental shifts in the strategic situation.

This study of Beijing’s information campaign during the Ukraine war shows how deeply anti-U.S. sentiment runs in the Chinese populace. Simply blaming an international crisis on China’s main adversary can foster a broad consensus in society aligned with the state’s stance.
