After 1.5 days of intensive discussion at Nanotechnology in Medicine & finishing a proposal out of 5, I (with the conference attendees) have a half day excursion. I chose to walk for 1.5h to visit Isola Bella, Sicily after visiting Greek-Roman theater in Taormina.

Good morning from Giardini Naxos, Sicily, Italy waiting for sunrise. On my East, there is ocean, and on the West, there is Mountain Etna, Europe' highest and most active stratovolano! What a great & inspiring location for a conference! Can't wait for the first session of Nanotechnology in Medicine!
Nanotechnology in Medicine V meeting begins in Sicily!
The 1st 3 people I met include Juliane Nguyen (the chair & recent #SynBYSS pioneer speaker at UNC Chapel Hill), Emily Day (U Delaware) & Laura Remis (Editor at Sci Adv)

Leisurely breakfast at 9 am after 7.5h sleep, which is twice of my average sleep hour a day during trips. Very refreshed to have a very long sleep and outdoor breakfast without rush.
Ready to attend the conference in Sicily, Italy!
After my 1-day trip in Sicily, Italy for 13 hours by rental car visiting the west and north coasts, I unexpectedly found a Korean restaurant for dinner. At 9:30 pm, people keep leaving and coming, although I am the only Korean. At such a moment, I am very proud of being Korean.
After finishing up a proposal draft and starting another, I decided to take a temporary break given I am in Sicily, Italy. One done, 4 to submit while traveling for 25 days by the end of Apr.
Such a break is like a cold slushy on a sunny Saturday after walking for 1.5h.
Original flight on Friday was canceled.
Hours of calls & search gave me Thur flight only, which was delayed, leading to missing the connection.
18h so far to Frankfurt from St. Louis & made it to 3rd flight to Catania with only 30 min transition.
3h more in this long journey to arrive in Italy!
My 25 days of back-to-back trips have many huddles.
Flight to Italy tomorrow was canceled with no option for near future departure. Hours of searching or calling led to rebooking today. This was delayed, leading to missing my connection. Such hiccups are part of our life.
Good days after ordeal.

After the amazing Bio Leadership Summit called BLISS, hosted by Drew Endy at the Hoover Institution, Stanford U, I had dinner with amazing people!
Meeting cool people is always the energetic driver for me to have a long trip for 25d.

I travel for ~180 days a year, but I can't fix USA airlines' delays & cancelations. Same for some USA politicians & leaders for 20+ years.
I encounter so many *sshol*s, but I can't figure out how to deal with them.
I use computer every day, but I can't fix it if turning on/off doesn't work. 😂
The 1st part of my back-to-back 25 days of trips is ending after 2 invited talks at Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg & Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig.
3.5h sleep a day on avg, but great 8 days!
Thanks & see you somewhere!
3 more parts to go!

I am giving an invited talk at Max Planck Institute!
My train delay to Wolfsburg made me miss my connection, giving me 1h to see Volkswagen Headquarters' plant. That's also life.
Well, the train I wanted to take was canceled, and the one I got is being delayed, making me miss the connection in which I reserved my seat. This is life.
Good morning from Germany! After 3h sleep again, 2 days in a row, I did wake up at 2am, work until 6am, and embark on a train trip, although Deutsche Bahn is not necessarily reliable or punctual. Anyway, delay would give me more time to work at the platform or train for min. another 4h.
Easter Monday Holiday in Germany left limited dinner options. A kind Bakery lady used German with body language, allowing me to choose a German potato & sausage soup at the train station. Danke Schoen!
After 3h sleep, 3h movie/meals & 3h writing, I arrived in Frankfurt, transferring to Leipzig.

As Eliot said in The Waste Land, April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, which I saw at Botanical Garden.
I almost died & survived from WU police brutality in Apr.
Let's overcome our ordeal together despite the hostile world.
