haha oh my god I wrote an entire spec pilot AND series outline for a 14-episode TV show adapted from Georgette Heyer’s THE MASQUERADERS, a book that nobody loves (or even remembers) except me and @schweizercomics.bsky.social

Thank you!
10th US President John Tyler arranged the cannon explosion on the USS Princeton to kill his co-conspirators, his Secretaries of State and Defense, in the poisoning murder of President William Henry Harrison, along with power broker David Gardiner so he could marry Gardiner’s daughter Julia.
If you want a real deep dive into process and designing stuff and world-building on the fly, I'm going into detail on the making of each episode of OUTLAW'S APPRENTICE as I go. Give it a gander:

Even if you aren't inclined to color in it, this is a BEAUTIFUL book and its a treat to pore over David's inks.
Thanks so much, Matthew!
Chatting with a pal at the animation expo in Nashville reminded me of some flashback-to-the-Exodus-story scenes that I did for an otherwise CG animated feature; the scenes ended up not being used, and I don't think I ever shared them. None of them are "complete", but here's one of the elements:
NOT TO BRAG but your boy was visualizing tips (AYYO!) back in 2020 when I wrote/illustrated my graphic novel COUNT (sci-fi reimagining of The Count of Monte Cristo).
Colors by the incomparable Brad Simpson!
You can find the book here!: www.barnesandnoble.com/w/count-ibra...

COLLIS. Phone autocorrected. sigh.
I didn't realize he was a real guy! He's the villain of Jacky Collision Harvey's absolutely excellent Thirty Years's War FITZCARDO series. The last book isn't available in the US yet
ahh yay hello sunshine was chosen for for inclusion on the 2026-2027 VA Reads list (Virginia Association of School Librarians)! i don't think voting is live yet (winners announced in may) but it's a reader's choice award for kids! very very cool
We’re on for Wednesday! It’s gonna be great!
This truly is a deep dive! What an absolute pleasure to read. #comics #BehindTheScenes #process
Been going through stacks of artwork and sketchbooks getting things ready for my show, finding a ton of weird stuff in old sketchbooks, like these ‘World of Milk’ things that I’m pretty sure I only sent to @badmachinery.com
photo of the poster (much younger at its taking) working on a rope-and-board bridge that lasted two years at most before it was wiped out by a passing floodborne tree
One of the many such bridges that no longer bears travelers

Thanks so much, Scott! It was a treat working with you, too. Honored to have been brought on.
Another of the scrapped bits was a "death of the firstborns/passover" shot, too; this one would've parrallaxed, as well, with the two houses being on different tracks.
I may do some short promo shots for the comic but that'll probably be it! And thanks!
There was another under-construction obelisk in the foreground, the sun and sky were heat-hazy, etc. It was a bunch of stuff!
The composition had been dictated by the feature director, I think; I got a colored concept from which to work. I rarely draw stuff with a flat ground plane, so: challenge!
The walking-with-a-stone fella follows a left-then-right arc that in the short shot would allow him to be used four times at once, creating a line of fellas. It'd only last for a few secs as it pans across so you shouldn't see a pattern. The planes were layered, too, for a parallax pan.
I don't know how to use any animation software; I just drew the bits frame-by-frame, but another person was to combine them. The straw-and-mud-stompers, the guy cracking the whip, the skirts and head coverings of the overseers blowing, etc; all animated, but I can only gif one at a time

Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!” Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?” Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.” Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”

Tennessee. And it sure does!
My granddad built the bridge in about forty years ago; but he had studied engineering, and since he died, the rest of us have built... 4? 5? bridges, none of which have stood up to floods
