Higher Ed Has a Trust Problem. Yale Thinks It Has Solutions. A group convened by the university’s president cited three main factors fueling the loss of public support: cost, admissions, and speech. It proposed reforms in each category.

Yale has decided to one-up Harvard in its "solution" to "grade inflation." Rather than cap A's, as Harvard is likely to do, Yale is going to force a 3.0 mean average in courses. Grades can't bear the weight people try to put on them. They're not scientific measures. www.chronicle.com/article/high...

Opinion | Beware conservatives promoting “intellectual freedom” Victor Ray: This conservative lie about schools like mine is furthering authoritarianism

Important read by @victorerikray.bsky.social about the anti-intellectualism centers popping up at universities across the US. Also critical to point out universities are hypocritically & simultaneously shutting down departments born from ‘movements for broader inclusion in mainstream American life.’

While our school shut down these depts/programs and majors, the state leg launched a new barrage of bills vs the university, targeting teaching content, president hiring rules, residency quotas/visa limits, and trying to mandate “civics” courses for all students—but only taught within this center.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

God I hate this genre. These kids who protested Gaza got arrested, expelled, beaten up, doxxed, lives ruined by outside agitators and were utterly betrayed by the administrations that should have protected them at any cost. Shut the fuck up.

I’ll save you the trouble: there’s no mindful way to use generative ai.

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

Personally, I always wanted to be a teacher because I so cherish my role as a cog in economic infrastructure.

There's a part of learning, which generative AI completely turns into dogshit, which is *doing something you could not have done before*

Whether it's drawing, playing an instrument, solving a physics problem, organizing an essay, you find yourself doing easily what previously you found overwhelming

FAMU can't use the word Black on anything posted around campus related to Black History Month, to stay in compliance with Florida state laws against DEI. Black students can't use the word Black at their Historically Black College during Black History Month.

In less than a week the Kennedy Center has effectively closed and our local DC paper has been gutted, both by billionaires.

I don’t think immigrants are our problem in this country.

Y'all. This.

"higher education treats routine pay increases that are common in many other industries as a once-in-a-blue-moon cause for celebration"

Cannot "this" this enough.

Arresting journalists.

Fatally shooting protestors.

Turning the military on citizens.

Attempting to rig elections.

Toying with the idea of declaring martial law.

If this were happening in another country, what would you call it?

Deaths in ICE detention

Deaths in ICE detention

Deaths from measles

Deaths from measles

These two charts came up in back to back posts on my feed. First shows deaths in ICE custody. The second, deaths from measles.

The two charts present data differently (bar chart vs overlaid year lines) but share one obvious thing in common:

Trump’s policies are actively killing people

The earlier incident started when he stopped his car after observing ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and began shouting and blowing his whistle, according to a source who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution.

Pretti later told the source that five agents tackled him and one leaned on his back – an encounter that left him with a broken rib. The agents quickly released him at the scene.

“That day, he thought he was going to die,” said the source.

My gosh. Alex Pretti was notifying neighbors that Trump and Vance's agents were chasing a family. A mob of agents then tackled him and broke his rib.

He thought he was going to die.

Then the very next week, he came back out to support his neighbors.

And a mob of agents killed him.

I’m pretty sure geeking out about Shrek the Musical during my final interview was what got me my job now 😂 so maybe give the olive oil a chance! If all else fails, you’ll have great recommendations for olive oil.

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

I don't see what's hard about telling Americans the truth: The aged lying self-obsessed president who tariffed your stuff while blocking the Epstein Files & taking multiple cognitive tests just started a war you didn't ask for, for no coherent reason other than he thinks it makes him look good on TV

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.

If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

I don't think free speech on campus ought to mean that a young coddled bigot gets to use their ignorance to casually destroy the career of a knowledgeable trans person on a random Wednesday
