Lost the Plot, Holding the Matches As Trump escalates abroad, the warnings grow louder that this is no longer politics as usual but something far more dangerous.

open.substack.com/pub/marygedd... Trump's behaviour reads like a map of a deranged mind. He's a national and international security risk and Congress, for the most part, seems to be sitting on their hands.

When our city enacted a ban on playing street hockey, I think the perspective shifted completely. Now streets are perceived as car only spaces. In neighborhoods that wasn’t the case when I was a child. It was common for people to be in the street. Mostly playing.

The Koch brothers hate public transit. But they can’t always stop projects in their tracks. The Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity has been fighting public transit across the country for years. Here's where they've succeeded and failed.

“The infamous Koch brothers have bankrolled climate deniers, propped up polluting industries, and even tried to turn the black community pro-fossil fuel. But, as a recent New York Times story shows, the billionaire conservatives have been steadily exerting pressure against public transit as well.”

Homelessness on the Rise in Finland - Y-Säätiö Asunnottomien ihmisten määrä on kääntynyt kasvuun. Nyt asunnottomien määrä kasvoi Helsingissä, vaikka asunnottomia asutettiin vuoden aikana vaikuttava määrä.

Sadly the current right-wing coalition government in Finland has foolishly cut the funding for the nation’s “Housing First” success story, and homelessness is predictably now on the rise again. That just reinforces the fact that such programs work, if lazy political ideology doesn’t get in the way.

I think it is an excellent book, enjoyed it thoroughly. It was timely as it went on sale prior to 2024 U.S. election.

I'd add, our government remains all over Elon Musk's Nazi site, as do many other institutions, associations, and 'respectable' people for some inexplicable reason.

Oil industry leaders are putting economy, environment at risk, says former minister Catherine McKenna Oil and gas production only sector in Canada to increase greenhouse gas emissions in 2024, inventory shows

"(Here in Canada) oil and gas, which is largely foreign-owned, largely U.S.-owned, aren’t doing their part. We know exactly how to make homelessness decrease again. It is a matter of choice: do we want to do it?”
