Huge team effort 🚀 Congrats to all co-authors in @intlbrainlab.bsky.social for making this project and dataset possible!

From 621,733 neurons recorded with 699 Neuropixels probes across 139 mice in 12 labs, we show that task signals—visual, choice, movement, prior—are distributed widely across the brain.
I hope these results inspire future projects. The data are public!

A subcortical switchboard for perseverative, exploratory and disengaged states - Nature Behavioural experiments in mice demonstrate that GABAergic (γ-aminobutyric acid-expressing), glutamatergic and serotonergic neurons in the median raphe nucleus have distinct and complementary function...

Should you stick to your goal, try something else, or give up? Your median raphe nucleus in the brainstem knows and will decide for you 😉. First foray of my lab into foraging, behavioural strategies and exploration. Amazing work from the one and only Mehran Ahmadlou: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Diagram showing MRN inhibitory, excitatory, and serotonergic neurons, each linked to distinct states: perseverance, exploration and disengagement.

New SWC research identifies the median raphe nucleus (MRN) as a critical hub for flexible switching between behavioural strategies of perseverance, exploration, and disengagement.

It may take less than 5 years. That technology is just more complex and takes longer to produce than standard Npx probes.

Some snippets of results: we successfully triggered activity in excitatory neurons expressing the red-shifted opsin ChRmine with both long and short light pulses. We show that the probes can be used for precise activation, identification, and manipulation of neuronal populations!
