Yeah I was gonna say in terms of performance I don’t think you can top him. But he was kind of a half-writer and obviously owed a lot to Quincy.

It’s certainly his best, though I am subjectively more fond of Superwoman and Maybe Your Baby. Last few years Summer Soft has been on repeat for me as well.

Yeah “performer” was a caveat in my own response and I wondered (eyyyo) what he’d be like as a performer if he could see.

That said given the constraints even at 74 years old he gave an incredible performance at MSG in fall ‘24. And in terms of vocal performance he tops anyone I’ve seen mentioned.

He def did not. And past the early Motown era Stevie produced his own albums.

They did some collabs on Quincy albums like the song Betcha Wouldn’t Hurt Me. Quincy arranged a version of You’ve Got it Bad Girl, and Stevie’s on Let the Good Times Roll off Q’s Jook Joint along with Ray Charles and…Bono
