I hope that they get will timed amounts of rain to replenish the water supplies & I hope that the people near & in Red Lodge remain safe.

I saw yesterday that not far outside of Red Lodge, Montana, a community that I fell in love with at first sight, a fast moving fire started & quickly exploded in size.
I hope that they get this fire and any others under control quickly.

The winter of 25-26 never really was a winter for much of the western US. Record heat decimated what little snowpack there was, and now we are coming into wildfire season.

I know that view so well! Come on up & enjoy! Might I recommend camping at True North Basecamp. The new owners have been hard at work making changes and improvements the last few months & I hear the campground will be even better than it already was!

Some is threatened by outsiders buying up adjacent land & lobbying politicians, trying to close off access. So, it's that much more important that we stand up for our little success story in the face of these challenges.

and emphasizing human powered activity rather than motorized. Some of this is threatened by townspeople who don't like the activity or that their old party spot is a tourist destination & have become a more vocal minority recently.

This has created an economic boom in the area, whose downtown was full of boarded up buildings just a decade ago, now thrives. It's now a tourist destination because of the care that was taken in working with nature, clearing out years of debris from the land & water,

To begin Earth Week, I decided to start right in my "back yard" in Cuyuna, Minnesota. Thus far, our area has become a success story of iron mine reclaimation hand in hand with nature. The pits have become deep, clean, clear lakes. The rock & dirt piles are now mountain bike trails.

Like, why do people feel the need to leave negative comments on everything they disagree with? Just scroll on by, people!
But, they just tend to leave a dark cloud over anything beautiful instead. However, the beauty is still there, shining through.

I decided to not post photos for a couple of days after the craziness of the BWCA situation & the attention the posts I made around that were getting.
Especially on my Facebook business page, policing the comments was a chore for a couple of days.

Clean land, air, water & food. These are the things that deserve to be stood for. A healthy, habitable, sustainable planet provides for all of our needs. But not all of our greed.

This is where a Chilean mining company plans to mine, send its contents to China, while polluting our state’s freshwater resources.
The vote is scheduled for 11:00AM EDT TODAY.

Please, please call your senators to help save the BWCA.

These photos are from the Kawishiwi River, just outside the BWCA, in the area of where the copper sulfide mine would be located. This river flows into the Boundary Waters.

Took the camera out in the kayak this evening & was greeted by a couple of these beautiful friends. Not only does it feel great to be back on the water, but to see the loons again.

The ice was (mostly) off of one of the lakes that I love to paddle here in Cuyuna, so naturally I suited up in the cold water gear and took the season’s first paddle. While I was out I watched the local loons land. I didn’t realize just how much I needed to see & hear them call from my kayak again.

Woke up with a bright light shining in the window this morning. I just had to throw the big lens on & admire it up close.

This is not sustainable. There is NO Planet B.
However, living this way is a choice. It’s priorities. That means that if it’s not too late, we can change.

They’re going after the Endangered Species Act. They’ve already dismantled the clean air & clean water acts. Worst of all, the pollution, death & destruction that wars bring.

April is Earth Month. Really, every month is. After all, she is our home planet.
However, currently there are forces hell-bent on extracting and exploiting her for every last drop she can give. They are fighting tooth and nail for OUR public lands. They are dismantling the Forest Service.

Humanity deserves better. We deserve leaders who share in our curiosity, our awe, who inspire joy, hope and a genuine desire to care for our home planet & its inhabitants as one rather than divided by imaginary lines.

It just reminded me of how much he has stolen from us all over the last decade +.

Was out on a short hike the other day and was drawn to the ice formations in the areas where the lake was beginning its thaw. The dark waters and the golden hour light really helped.
