quote on a dark blue and purple background from Sudip S. Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), criticizing proposed cuts to science funding in the FY26 U.S. federal budget. The quote reads: “If enacted, the FY26 budget request would end America’s global scientific leadership. The cuts to science would imperil our nation’s future health, security and prosperity. This budget proposal stands in stark contrast to the President’s call for a renewed commitment to American scientific leadership. Congress has demonstrated a bipartisan commitment to investment in research and must do so again to answer the President’s call.” The quote is attributed to Sudip S. Parikh, CEO of AAAS and Executive Publisher of the Science family of journals. The AAAS logo appears at the bottom right.
I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.
If Senator Murray Watt approves the North West Shelf extension, his legacy will forever be as the man who destroyed the oldest rock art on the planet.
It will be an act of vandalism so gross that nothing he can do in politics thereafter could counter the damage.
Fantastic to see this announcement on a successful negotiation on a pandemic treaty. The US are not playing, but this demonstrates that international health collaboration is still relevant, necessary and desired!!
SO CLOSE! After more than 2 years of negotiations, we will be watching closely on Tuesday (tomorrow) for negotiators to reach a historic pandemic agreement, demonstrating the solidarity essential to keep us all safer in the face of pandemic threats. healthpolicy-watch.news/who-pandemic...
The message is: crowd large.
Many politicians, administrators, and business leaders, in bowing to Trump, have drawn confidence and comfort from the perceived vibe shift.
Events like this puncture that delusion.
Today marks FIVE YEARS since @who.int declared #COVID19 a "pandemic". As we grapple with the long-term impacts of COVID and a time of rising threats, PAN's Exec. Director @eloisetodd.bsky.social shares 5️⃣ reflections that are begging for action. www.pandemicactionnetwork.org/news/five-re...
NIH is abruptly terminating at least 33 research grants for projects studying why some people are hesitant to receive vaccines or evaluating strategies that could encourage vaccine uptake. scim.ag/4how23i
It’s a ridiculous list. No research of any value can (or should) avoid the words that enable the question to be posed in the first place.
"Banning those words, and therefore hampering good medical research and care, has far-reaching consequences. Good healthcare is based on diversity and should strive to maximize inclusion and equity."
A woman in glasses with brown hair speaks at a podium at the left front of a lecture theatre. A screen behind her shows her face and title - The Hon. Mary- Anne Thomas MP, Minister for Health. The backs of audience members heads are visible in the foreground.
Refreshing to hear the Victorian Minister for Health talk fearlessly in favour of #equity, #expertise and the need to work collaboratively to address challenges in #health. #IWD2025
It feels like we are living in a parallel universe.
Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.
I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
Fantastic leadership from Kristy Crooks, Adrian Miller, Jaqui Hughes and the rest of the First Nations Research Council, plus support from APPRISE.
The result? A huge range of applications from diverse organisations across #Australia, 10 funded projects, lots of #academic and #CommunityCentred outcomes, a highly engaged group of #FirstNations researchers and now, an ongoing pandemic research preparedness network.
Great to see this paper out about the #FirstNations #COVID #research grant program we ran in 2020. Made possible by a donation from the Paul Ramsay Foundation, First Nations perspectives were prioritised from eligibility, to application requirements & review.

Really interesting article on the evolving landscape of evidence synthesis and use.

Recognising the need for and value of collaborative and collective approaches to complex problems.
Hi @bsky.app! Excited to see a growing community here. I’m interested in #PublicHealth, #LongCOVID, #CommunityEngagement, #Research, #Equity. Focussed on preparing for future pandemics, based on unceded Wurundjeri land.
