Time to reread The Great American Novel
You have to buy Thomas’s book to read the foreword to see why I think those stories are great but you can read my essay on why The Best Weird Fiction of the Year Vol. 1 is great for free, right now, and find out how weird fiction is constituted by weird reading (you should also buy Thomas’s book)
heartwarming video of astronaut Christina Koch greeting her dog for the first time after returning from space. the pup can be seen snarling, back arched, before scampering to its word buttons and pressing "IMPOSTOR" repeatedly, then "FALSE. SKIN. FALSE. SKIN." several times

This is what I mean when I tell people my books are not a message/moral but an invitation to conversation. The book is my side of that conversation. How you interact with it and talk and think about it is yours.
For Woke Week, I make the case for Clive Barker's Nightbreed - a lurid, pulp masterpiece butchered on its release. It knows who its enemies are - the cops, the state, and a straight society that seek to control and manipulate people for being different. Also it's sick. aftermath.site/nightbreed-m...
Goldman Sachs reports that 300 million full-time jobs could be replaced by AI by 2030. Labor turnover is high and hiring has slowed. 71% of Americans worry that AI will cause permanent job loss. As young people about to enter the workforce for the first time, the fear of unemployment is understandable, but we cannot save ourselves with the very tool that is putting us at risk. The irony is that as Penn pours endless money and energy into AI advancement in its attempt to get ahead, the University is only quickening its own demise. AI cannot coexist with education — it can only degrade it. As technology advances and workers are replaced by machines, schools are some of the only places we have left to explore and wrestle with human thought. With our own university leading the charge, AI is now corrupting those few sacred spaces and leaving us with nowhere to engage in true scholarship. An unaccounted for part of the economy is how much young people virulently hate AI, despite how aggressively it's being forced on them. They realize it's making their friends dumber and ruining the world and they want nothing to do with it.
From the Penn student paper:

Yeah. We've all been thrown to the wolves. If lawmakers refuse protect young people then our society has foreclosed its future.
There's material evidence that AI "companions" hurt young people. When I asked if legislation was being proposed, a Physics teacher wryly remarked, "our lawmakers still don't care if teens are hurt on social media."
Went to an AI info session hosted by our school district. The teachers hate it. It erodes the confidence of their students; they have to convince high schoolers that they're capable of physics problems, literature analysis. They're expected teach amid constant disruption.
