Funny how the law and order guys never think it applies to them 🙄

He’s again blaming the courts, the protesters and those attacked by police all for his appalling and illegal attempts to ban dissent

Australian Values compliance for One Nation voters? Well done Angus! Angus Taylor's social media vetting of Australian values for visa holders will be costly, labour-intensive and ultimately untenable.

Abul Rizvi, former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Immigration, has calculated that Angus Taylor’s proposed social media visa check would require 15,000 extra processing staff. Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus 😳

Bail for five charges of murder.

Can’t see how this could go wrong.

For workers still being deliberately underpaid, it’s vital to ensure these laws are actually working.

Great win for democracy & our rights to protest!
NSW Council for Civil Liberties reports that the courts have thrown out Minns Govt draconian new laws on restricting public protest.
Public space belongs to all of us, & always was, always should be the theatre of dissent.

NSW’s highest court strikes down anti-protest law introduced in wake of Bondi beach terror attack Court finds law – which effectively meant protesters could not march without risk of arrest – is unconstitutional

We said this law was unconstitutional, and it was unconstitutional. Not because we're clever, you could spot the invalidity from Jupiter. Politicians make these ridiculous laws knowing they'll be struck down, as a measure of their own cowardice and lack of seriousness.

• JD VANCE RESPONDS TO POPE LEO:
"When the Pope says that God is never on the side of those who wield the sword - there is more than a THOUSAND year tradition of Just war Theory."

"In the same way that it's important for the vice president of the United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy, I think it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology."

"And I think that one of these issues here is that there has been - if you're going to opine on matters of theology, you've got to be careful, you've got to make sure it's anchored in the truth, and that's one of the things that I try to do, and it's certainly something I would expect from the clergy, whether they're Catholic or Protestant."

I’ve given this a great deal of thought, trying to come up with the perfect joke for this moment, and this is what I have so far -

POPE LEO: our religion teaches that this war is bad

VANCE: wow, who died and made YOU head of the Catholic Church??

POPE LEO: well, you should know, you were there

The Incitec Pivot urea plant at Gibson Island in Brisbane only finally closed in December last year, though I believe it ceased urea fertiliser production in 2022.

(Urea is also used in AdBlue – lots of it. Ammonia, the intermediate product, is also used to make mining explosives.)

Chris Rust and a smol friend.

Chris Rust and a smol friend.

Speaking of war/crimes & countless other atrocities, I was sad to learn of the recent death of Chris Rust.

Chris was virtually synonymous with #FoodNotBombs in Melbourne/Naarm, a co-founder of the group & its mainstay for many years.

A quiet guy who loved music & serving food to the community.

The WWI war memorial in Cudgewa Victoria. The classic plinth with a rectangular bit for the list of names then a column with a ball on top. All surrounded by a low fence. On the edge of town.

Everything I read about the half billion dollar war memorial in Canberra makes me feel angry.

This was always enough war memorial for Australians.

Fuck the Forum and fuck the Marriner Group. Today they tore down the "She Matters" mural in Hosier Lane, curated by @sherelemoody.bsky.social as part of the Red Heart movement highlighting Australian femicide. What a shameful thing to do 🤬 australianfemicidewatch.org/database/

I spoke to an Australian Vietnam Veteran today about how he felt about Ben Roberts-Smith being charged with war crimes. He said that he had faith that the inquiry will find out the truth. He also said that to believe BRS accounts, you need to ignore the fact that 21 soldiers blew the whistle.
