Does anybody here work for #Dell Inc.?
...I can imagine a lot of people just ignoring this opportunity if it's this complex and seemingly bizarre.
To the people who invent recycling rules:
I'm now able to recycle crisp packets and individual chocolate bar wrappers.
But not "share bags" of chocolate, uh uh. No way. Santa will put me on the naughty list if I do that.
This makes *no* sense as someone on the outside of the food industry...
Morning.

😂 It can't be me they hate, I support Spurs and at the moment, the Venn diagram of when Spurs play and when they lose shows 2 completely overlapping circles.
Good luck both 😬

I've still got floppy disks lying around somewhere, and no way of reading them (tho I know there are such things as USB floppy drives but that seems extreme given the disks are rubbish)

Friday Squid Blogging: New Giant Squid Video
Pretty fantastic video from Japan of a giant squid eating another squid. As usual, you can also use this squid post to talk about the security stories in the news that I haven't covered. Blog moderation policy.
I have a USB drive for exactly that - this old laptop is the only device that has one and it's old in IT terms (16yo, that's basically stone age)
I was given a CD the other day with some data on it that I needed. I went to my computer and couldn't figure out where the CD went until I realized it had been years since I had a machine with an optical drive.
I really need to join @cwtch-up.bsky.social in retirement.
But less secure! 😅
Son looked at it, the laptop is so old it has a dvd player in it. "Will it play DVDs?"
Um well, yeah, technically. As soon as I get KDE running. Which has a pre req of wifi.
🤣 Yeah but a network would be useful!
@jhaskins.bsky.social so, 24 hours after installing FreeBSD, I have a fully functioning supercomputer.
Oh hang on no wait, I don't have KDE running and haven't even connected to WiFi. #winning
Oh haha sorry! I've actually used wsl once and it was OK (tho the goal was to use a me for Let's encrypt I think, and that didn't get off the ground unfortunately - something to do with DNS record timeouts cos didn't manage own DNS at time)
I <3 vi
At least you didn't call it vim
I've just put FreeBSD onto an old laptop I have, but it's painful because I haven't used *nix for so long 😂
I always install Linux
wsl --install
Sisyphus: I've got to push a boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back to the bottom, for all eternity.
Me: I've got to use vi
Because obviously, if you're really worried about privacy you install something from Google.
Anti-Microsoft brigade: install Linux! Install Chrome! Boo to corporate behemoth Microsoft
Also anti-Microsoft brigade: don't install Firefox! It's...full of ads or something. Anyway we don't like it (even though it's pretty much the only browser not based on a corporate behemoth code base)
Security people worried about AI generated 0days when they don't have MFA and have windows 2008 still around. Almost no one is getting hacked by unknown exploits - they are getting hacked by credential theft and unpatched machines.

(so in previous lives production lan stuff was in one can, and DMZ was in another cab with its own switch plugged in to the DMZ port of a f/w)
