Can we fucking talk about the fact that shitbag corporations like Amazon don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay fuckall for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

WE Pay for ALL that shit.

If you don't believe your work strongly enough to stand behind it, then you can just not publish it until you are prepared to do so.

I hear you. But real-world implications require responsibility. If I wrote a paper claiming snorting bleach cured asthma based on a statistical approach I invented specifically to prove bleach cured asthma, saying "well, I could be wrong" doesn't negate the moral failure of when someone tries it.

Thanks for sparing me the pain of reading that. Always love how geneticists write these things and then caveat with a "please dont extrapolate to the obvious implications of this work" as if that absolve them of responsibility.

Sigh... they claim it only happened in Eurasia or they only looked in Eurasia? Either way, Reich isnt beating the accusations. This smells like the "cold makes people smart" crap from the Bell Curve.

“How do you cover a profligate liar?” is the media question of our time and somehow the answer has been “exactly the same as you cover a consistent truth teller.”

Language Matters
Why English is so hard to learn
Marlene Davis
YOU think English is easy? Check out the following.

was wound around
the wound.
11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid in his hospital bed.
12. There was a row among the oarsmen about who would row. 13. They were too close to the door to close it.
14. The buck does funny things when the does (females) are present.
15. A seamstress and a sewer fell
2. The farm was cultivated to produce down into a sewer line.
produce.
3. The dump was so full that the workers had to refuse more refuse.
4. We must polish the Polish furniture shown at the store.
5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6. The soldier decided to desert his tasty dessert in the desert.
7. Since there is no time like the pres- ent, he thought it was time to present the present to his girlfriend.
8.A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10. I did not object to the object which he showed me.
16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail around the mast.
18. Upon seeing the tear in her painting she shed a tear.
19.I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
20. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
Heteronyms
These are brilliant. Homonyms or homographs are words of like spelling, but with more than one meaning and sound.
When pronounced differently, they are known as heteronyms.

Seems like capping APC funding and requiring researchers post papers to preprint servers at the time of journal submission would both reduce costs and preserve public access.

A plan that rests on publishers "rethinking " the most profitable business model in history feels ... unlikely to work out.

I'm just now learning he was the author of the "academics need to wake up on AI". Just a remarkable body of work. I'm sure he will be on the "I got canceled by the woke mob" circuit forever more.

Looks like he listened 🤣. Poor guy was trying to have an academic discussion about how the left shifting verbage is actually to blame for ethno-nationalism and people got mad.

Benin is one of the places where Chinese solar is absolutely exploding (not literally, of course—only fossil energy does that).

A huge reason for this are the rapid price declines: in Agbon a 180 watt panel cost the equivalent of $75 three years ago but now costs only about $45

Curious if there is a chance the eligibility claim is a cover? "Never attribute to malace what could be incompetence" and all, but could a few Senators from farming states oppose an SG who has been hyper-vocal against pesticides? I guess that should've applied to SecHHS nom as well but 🤷‍♂️ curious.
