Codex Shredder, Pyxis of Pandemonium, and Ghoulcaller’s Bell do a similar thing, make your opponent remove the top card of their deck. The same one that’s revealed off of lantern so that they don’t draw into anything good.
Ensnaring Bridge and other stun pieces are what tied this deck together. Dump your hand so they can’t attack, prevent the opponent from drawing interaction so they can’t remove it, win because they scoop. Simple.
One that I look at a lot is one in Magic’s Modern format called Lantern Control; A deck that controls the opponents’ draw so that they can’t make any meaningful plays. The point was not to win, it was to prevent the game of Magic from being played. (Alts explain the purpose of each card)
