We’re running a study on applying aesthetic enhancements to visualizations of 3D scientific data. If you work with spatial scientific data (as a researcher, viz expert, or user), we’d love your perspective.

🥇 As the Olympics end, we’re spotlighting a SCI PhD student who contributed to innovative coverage of the last Games. @kalinab.bsky.social helped @nytimes.com visualize the closest 100m finish in modern history, and her team won a top award. The University of Utah wrote a profile about my work.
It covers an award-winning Olympics project I contributed to at The New York Times, my ACM SIGGRAPH leadership, and my research at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute.

Today I finished my last class ever. I've said that before (twice) but this time I mean it. Somebody stop me if I start browsing grad school websites again.
Museum and Planetarium Friends,
Many of you use NASA SVS material. Right now it is critical that we are able to document SVS's impact.
Please let us know how you are using our content (use my email address at the bottom of this page: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov).
Thank you!
Getting paid to teach journalism students about data storytelling.
Which is wild because I’ve never taken a journalism class in my life.

Recently learned about Letterboxd. Check out these films which feature my cinematic scientific visualizations. "Birth of Planet Earth" is my favorite.

Throwback to the time I narrated my own visualization like a true PI. Couldn’t afford Morgan Freeman, but we did get team t-shirts.

My hot take: The erasure of scivis in vis research needs to stop. Just read a paper aiming to define universal visualization types. Even TABLES made the cut, but no mention of scivis. This happens often. If you mean infovis, say infovis, but don’t call it "universal" while ignoring an entire field.
Recently had a CT scan and obviously requested the data.
Plot twist: I have become the scientific visualization.
