Current status of the Strait of Hormuz dispute
When I say that what used to be Britain's university 'system' is in complete chaos and enduring revolutionary upheaval, I really mean it. If anything I'm underplaying the whole thing.

Of course speaking out is necessary but not sufficient.
But its the very least we should expect our government to be doing.
It's time to suspend all US military from UK soil.
And the clock is ticking.
It's now been 3 hours since our supposed "ally" Donald Trump threatened genocide on a country of 93 million people.
We've had absolutely nothing from the UK government.
This doesn't come in a vacuum either - every day the US & Israel have been murdering innocent people.
The leaders of the free world - leading liberal democracies - have a moral responsibility to organize a world wide boycott of #FIFA #WorldCup games in the U.S. and demand all matches be moved to Mexico and Canada. Same consideration should be in play for #Olympics in LA.

The greatest irony is that the country the US was determined to be different from has a King with no power whereas the US has elected a King with total power.
I feel much more anger towards the British pundits & politicians who failed to understand the depravity & derangement of Donald Trump than I do the ones who failed to understand the idiocy of Brexit. But it doesn’t really matter because they’re exactly the same bloody people.

This is so, so well-articulated.
And Brunel actually opened up promotions again for this year. Which is a very encouraging thing and seems not the norm across higher education currently
Brunel employee here. Yeah it was a terrible year and terrible to see many people go. To counteract this though: recruitment was much better for 25/26 year, and for health sciences at least, admissions are also really good so far. So it’s definitely not all complete doom and gloom.
Om te huilen. Echt. CDA en D66; have you no honor?
🚨🚨special episode: I spoke to the UK’s former head of international energy strategy about what the war means for global energy supplies. It’s bad news, I’m afraid.

In a sea of opinions about the role of LLMs in academics I offer my own.
Apart from being harmful, exploitive plagiarism machines, LLMs rob us of the opportunity to experience the gift of friction in writing, which changes how we think.
We must not give away that gift.

52% of U.K gas consumption is for heating and cooking (mainly heating).
The Government committing to the simple task of delivering a heat pump, electric oven, and induction hob at every home in the land, to reduce emissions and increase energy security, should be a strategic national priority.
